anyone that knows anything about martial arts would agree with the following....

Bruce Lee was a GREAT technician, he developed his own style and was dedicated to martial arts his whole life.

but........

in his early years Bruce Lee competed in open tournaments in Hawaii and japan.......he never established himself as a great fighter.....great form yes, great mind yes, great fighter no...

Chuck Norris actually would have fared better, he did establish himself as a great tournament fighter.......

Ali was the greatest heavyweight fighter of all time....power and quickness that has yet to be matched.........imo of course..

Dear crack smokers,

You win, the 140 lb movie star could beat up arguably the greatest heavyweight of all time. Also Sylvester Stallone could probably have taken out Saddam Hussein single-handedly. And the cast from Hoosiers would easily make it to the Final Four this March.

Before Lee was a movie star, he was kung-fu master. Sylvester Stallone was

star before that. NBAlive2005 got this one nail on the head,
I think if they fought using boxing rules, Ali probably would have won by decision.
and if they fought free-style, Bruce Lee would kill Ali in 3 seconds!!!

Ever saw on TV Lee knock a 200lb Tekwando black belt to the floor with only 3 INCH OF POWER.

Yes, Ali punch is more powerful than Lee, no doubts about that. But about quickness, Ali is no match at all. How many times do you think Ali can take with a kick on the face from LEE?

where did you get your info from?
Lee never lost to anyone in open fights.

he said sth like "I would not say I'm the #1 fighter in the world, but I wouldn't say I'm #2 as well"

a boxer knows how to box or punch

martial masters like bruce lee knows weak points in the whole body, death punches, where to break bones, rip tendons ... to kill

its not who will win but how quick

lee would kick alis kneecap and throw a punch to the throat

This is a joke, right?

Take Ali circa 1965 or 1966, and Lee around 1971.

In a free fight, Lee would have destroyed Ali (and almost anybody else in the world) within 30 seconds. In a boxing match, Ali would win easilly.

In a free fight, almost any of the old school professional wrestlers (not the muscle-bound clowns that wrestle today) would have Ali for lunch. The Ali vs Inoki match was worked (so that Ali wouldn't get killed). All the boxer can do is hold off the wrestler with his reach. Once the wrestler gets inside, it's over.

Lee would have done well against most wrestlers because he had more than just punching ability. But even Lee would have had his hands full with good "shoot" wrestlers like a pre-1960 Lou Thesz, a pre-1970 Johnny Valentine, a 1970's Harley Race, or a 1960's Danny Hodge (especially Hodge)

go to a karate studio and watch them spar and you will be so unimpressed then go to a local boxing gym and watch them spar and you would see ANY good boxer would destroy a good karate guy. its nothing like you see in the movies, karate is no big deal.great question though!

you have to specify if it's normal boxing rules or anything goes. That would decide the winner.

If anyone think bruce lee could beat ali in a boxing match you are crazy because if he could then he would and a karate guy would be the world champion. I think if anything goes then there is a debate.

so you guys are saying karate guys like bruce lee are actually the best boxers in the world?

So the greatest heavyweight fighter in the world really would have been bruce lee if he started boxing?

But no one was hitting Lee in the face as he was throwing that punch. Lee was a good actor but he wasn't respected in the martial arts community as a fighter.

yea i didn't know if anyone specified the rules. If he could break knees and hit weak points etc. then I have no clue.

Also I dont know what kinda free-fighting skills ali had.

Interesting to think about.

yeah.. and what's this?

"I learned a lot from him. He was a very knowledgeable individual and his whole life was the martial arts."─Chunk Norris (International Heavy Weight Karate Champion)

What's that? That's one person's opinion, I think. Unless Chuck Norris is a whole community. But with that being said, Chuck would have kicked the shit out of Lee.

"Don't bother debating with him, you won't win, and fighting him is even more foolish, that's just like suicide" - Joe Louise (Former karate heavyweight Champion)
