Now that was a nice pickup by the Devils. He should fit right in.

Bushay--Separate question, Are the Detroit TV announcers homers? The Wings were up 3-1 w/a minute to go and they were calling it a win. I realize in most cases it is a done deal, but we've all see some strange last minute comebacks (not that I thought BUF would tonight). Just noted it (not that I cared b/c I had Det -1.5).

Of course they are. Big time. Play by play guy Ken Kal is pretty fair giving the visitors their props but Mickey Redmond....a living legend here, is really biased. But their both on the Wings payroll so what do you expect?

I watched the game but was on the phone for most of the 3rd so didn'nt really hear the announcers. But from what I was listening to earlier in the game I think they know that the Wings are just in a really good funk right at the minute and where they've had some 3rd period letdowns in the past after being up by 2 or 3,......a 2 goal lead in the last minute at home after a tight first 2 periods......they like most everyone here watching them of late knew that lead was pretty safe.

But again...they ARE big homers I have to admit.

If your team's radio and TV guys are NOT homers, they need to be fired and replaced

Barman Jr, during his recent six month stay here in Florida (from northern Utah where there are no "local" radio or TV sports broadcasts) mentioned that one of most entertaining aspects of watching Rays television this season was the excitement shared by the television guys when the Rays were winning.

Here's 45 seconds of how a sports radio broadcast should sound in YOUR market

Ahh. I wouldn't go that far. We used to have Ernie Harwell doing Tiger baseball games for years and he was completely neutral. Vin Scully's another. Maybe your just talking hockey but those guys didn't last as long as they did cause they were homers.

No offence Barman but...that's dude's just doing a whole lot of screaming to me. Maybe I just can't get excited about a TB hockey announcer. Just doesn't seem right.

Gimme the Buffalo play by play guy anytime. or the Pittsburgh guy. Like when Mario used to score in the top shelf he's tell you he put it "upstairs" ...Where momma hides the cookies!

Maybe I shouldn't have referred to them as homers. What I was really commenting on was how they had the game over w/a minute to go and a 2 goal lead. I prefer when an announcer says something along the lines of, "....with a two goal lead, this one is pretty much over" or "...unless there's a miracle finish by Buffalo, Detroit will win their xxth straight...."

The use of less definitive terms ("pretty much") or future tense ("will win") but that are qualified ("unless") are important for announcers to use until the game clock is 0:00 and the game is over.

And....Obviously we have homer announcers throughout the NY area (Michael Kay of the Yanks' TV being the most obvious).

Chico Resch one of the most blatant homers anywhere, which is why us Devils fans love the guy so much. Damn near was on the verge of tears after the Rangers knocked NJ out of the playoffs last year.

Strangely, wife is from Detroit and can't stand Mickey Redmond and will always watch the visiting team's feed on Center Ice. I couldn't dream of watching anybody but Doc and Chico calling a Devils game.

We dont need him anymore. He served his purpose here.

We don't really need him either. Not sure what Lou was thinking here unless it's to possibly move a forward at the deadline for some defensive help, which we do need.

Yes. I'm sure though that you've learned over the year not to question moves the Lou makes very often. If it were me, I'd reserve judgment here before it all plays out.

Whether the right or wrong move by the Devs (or the Canucks signing Mats), I give these guys credit for playing at nearly 40 years old.

I'm the same age as these guys and I have my "agent" negotiating w/my wife as to when I need to go out and shovel snow from the driveway. Something tells me it will be completed before the Giants game.

LOL! Got mine done late last night Artie. Good luck on completing a multi-storm deal. That's the key!
