Tried to copy something from the Wynn Book In LV. Did not work. Anyway Good Magic is now 4/1[SUB][SUP]
[/SUP][/SUB]ff his Grade 1 Haskell Invitational win, Good Magic was on Monday made the new Las Vegas favorite for the Nov. 3 Breeders’ Cup Classic at Churchill Downs.
The Wynn Las Vegas dropped the Chad Brown-trained colt from 10-1 to 4-1 on a board that, of course, no longer includes the recently retired Triple Crown winner Justify.
A son of Curlin who also ran in the Kentucky Derby and Preakness, Good Magic opened at 12-1 at the Wynn, which first listed odds for the Classic on June 18. By July 14, he dropped two points when wagering on Justify was suspended. And he took control of the division this week thanks to the three-length score over Bravazo and Lone Sailor in the Haskell.
The Wynn’s other top early choices are almost exclusively older horses. Bob Baffert-trained West Coast and Collected — both in the midst of long layoffs, but back in training — are 6-1 and 8-1, respectively. Dubai World Cup winner Thunder Snow follows at 9-1 with Accelerate, who has multiple Grade 1 wins this year, at 10-1.
More immediately, Good Magic should go favored in the Aug. 25 Travers Stakes (G1) at Saratoga. Other 3-year-olds targeting that race on the Wynn’s Classic radar include Hofburg (12-1), Gronkowski (20-1), Tenfold (25-1), Bravazo (28-1), King Zachary (30-1) and Vino Rosso (30-1). The filly, Wonder Gadot, is also newly on the board at 75-1.
If you’re Vegas-bound and seeking value, look no further than Diversify. The last-out Suburban Handicap (G2) winner opened at 85-1 and remains at 60-1 heading into Saturday’s Whitney (G1) at Saratoga. The knock on the New York-bred is, of course, that he doesn’t run well outside of his home state.
