Like father, like son: He'll end his career with the same amount of HRs as his dad (319).

He missed only 13 games over eight seasons from 2006-’13. Everything changed after he underwent his first surgery in May 2014.

The career of Texas Rangers designated hitter Prince Fielder is over, as he is medically disabled and doctors will not clear him to play, according to Fox Sports.
The Rangers are planning to hold a news conference Wednesday to announce the news.
Fielder, 32, hasn't played since July 19 after an MRI revealed a herniation of disks in his neck just above an area that was repaired two years ago.
According to Fox Sports, Fielder had season-ending neck surgery last month.
He is hitting .212 with eight home runs and 44 RBIs this season. He has 319 career home runs in 12 seasons for the Brewers, Tigers and Rangers.
Fielder will finish with the same career home run total as his father, Cecil, who was a major leaguer for 13 seasons with five teams.
The six-time All-Star is scheduled to receive $24 million annually through 2020 as part of the nine-year, $214 million deal he signed with the Tigers in 2012.
The Tigers traded him to the Rangers in the 2013 offseason in exchange for second baseman Ian Kinsler.
Fielder was the seventh overall pick by the Brewers in 2002. He made his major league debut with Milwaukee in 2005.

I played against him in high school. He was a few years younger then me. Actually seemed like a nice enough kid. He was pretty quite back then. Dad seemed like kind of a tool. He would come to his kids game with body guards and shit, and he played at a fancy private school down here. Its not like it was an area where you needed to bring your body guards.

Yeah it was weird. Maybe they were just friends of his or something but he would pull up to the games in a big black suburban and get out with 2-3 huge black dudes that just had that look of being security guys to me. And I'm talking this is a private school in Florida where it cost 20-25k to attend high school a year. I could throw a baseball to the ocean almost. When we hit home runs the balls would go into the inter coastal waterway. A nice area is what i'm saying. Literally on A1A which is right next to the Atlantic ocean.

Rangers and Fielder are not calling this a "retirement". Dr's won't clear him to play so he will be on the disabled list for the next four years. Texas Rangers will pay half of his $72 million contract over next 4 years.
