The people running the Dodger organization are fools. They gave away LoDuca, traded away their middle relief, team MVP Beltre left, Pavano now gone. They did pick up Vazquez who pitched batting practice for the NYY last year.
then you dont know baseball, or moneyball. sure it sucks right now, but we do have the best farm system in baseball at the moment, and at least 3 or 4 of the top overall 10 prospects in baseball.
do assume that they got rid of loduca is assanine. yes it didn't help, but it saved 5 million this coming year - as for trading away middle relief? not so fast - go look at the stats, yhency brozabon had better stats than mota after the trade. that is a fact. mota was also due for a lot of money this year, so instead letting him hit FA, we got something for him.
anyone who sits there and says that penny is better than vasquez also doesn't know baseball. in my opinion, brad penny is damaged goods until further notice. you realize that frank job, the pioneer of the tommy john surgery said that the injury penny suffered from in his 2nd start with LA, was the most unorthadox and crazy injury he has EVER seen. he also said that there is no way to HEAL it, it can flare up at any time - and is almost impossible to prevent.
ill take vasquez over that.
now if this trade does come through - here's the outlook for LA.
you acquire two of the brightest and actually, two of the LAST prospects that NY has in their system. a solid catcher and another guy with some serious POP who will be MLB ready in 06'.
you dump topper, aka shawn green to the diehard dodgers - who has seen his numbers plummet since his huge 48 homer year. we are paying him more and more each year to ground into double plays, and hit fly balls. no thanks, the dbacks can take that salary anyday.
now brozabon scares me. but he too is unproven, so far. he threw almost 100x more than he has ever in his life last year, seeing he is a converted outfielder.
look for la to make a strong push for matt clement, jd drew, and or magglio ordonez.
but please - everyone, you can criticize and say wow, what the hell are they doing. but if you say that with convictions, read the book moneyball. go find out why and how the a's have been so successful under BB.
i dont see anyone freaking out over the tim hudson trade.
also, carl pavano has never been a dodger, unless early in his years in the farm system. vasquez did not "throw" BP. that was Kevin Brown, former dodger.
good luck to adrian beltre. he's underperformed for almost 4 years, he breaks out one day finally after feeling comfortable - now he is going to the cold northwest in a new league. that is very very very hard to do. especially as a hitter.
im telling you i would be hating our team for the next 6 years, if beltre played the way he played his first 4 -- paying almost 12 mill each year? come on now.
