the Yankees are in the process of raping those two teams-- Johnson is also big, strong & naturally in shape-- he doesn't have to be worried about staying fit like a Ryan/Seaver/Clemens. With a strong bullpen & offense behind him to boot, & barring any freak accident, he could be the next Satchel Paige-- & pitch into his 50's........

Are the Dodgers insane? Penny had a better record and is a much better pitcher than Vazquez and they traded him AND a 40 home run guy for Vazquez?
Unless those 2 prospects are ready to play right away I would say they got fleeced bigtime! Diamondbacks really cleaned up on this.

The people running the Dodger organization are fools. They gave away LoDuca, traded away their middle relief, team MVP Beltre left, Pavano now gone. They did pick up Vazquez who pitched batting practice for the NYY last year.

no they are not insane at all, if this trade were to go through, they would save more money than is understandable.

and, trade hasn't nor do i think will go down. ive been a dodger fan my whole life, die hard at that.

then you dont know baseball, or moneyball. sure it sucks right now, but we do have the best farm system in baseball at the moment, and at least 3 or 4 of the top overall 10 prospects in baseball.

do assume that they got rid of loduca is assanine. yes it didn't help, but it saved 5 million this coming year - as for trading away middle relief? not so fast - go look at the stats, yhency brozabon had better stats than mota after the trade. that is a fact. mota was also due for a lot of money this year, so instead letting him hit FA, we got something for him.

anyone who sits there and says that penny is better than vasquez also doesn't know baseball. in my opinion, brad penny is damaged goods until further notice. you realize that frank job, the pioneer of the tommy john surgery said that the injury penny suffered from in his 2nd start with LA, was the most unorthadox and crazy injury he has EVER seen. he also said that there is no way to HEAL it, it can flare up at any time - and is almost impossible to prevent.

ill take vasquez over that.

now if this trade does come through - here's the outlook for LA.

you acquire two of the brightest and actually, two of the LAST prospects that NY has in their system. a solid catcher and another guy with some serious POP who will be MLB ready in 06'.
you dump topper, aka shawn green to the diehard dodgers - who has seen his numbers plummet since his huge 48 homer year. we are paying him more and more each year to ground into double plays, and hit fly balls. no thanks, the dbacks can take that salary anyday.

now brozabon scares me. but he too is unproven, so far. he threw almost 100x more than he has ever in his life last year, seeing he is a converted outfielder.

look for la to make a strong push for matt clement, jd drew, and or magglio ordonez.

but please - everyone, you can criticize and say wow, what the hell are they doing. but if you say that with convictions, read the book moneyball. go find out why and how the a's have been so successful under BB.

i dont see anyone freaking out over the tim hudson trade.

also, carl pavano has never been a dodger, unless early in his years in the farm system. vasquez did not "throw" BP. that was Kevin Brown, former dodger.

good luck to adrian beltre. he's underperformed for almost 4 years, he breaks out one day finally after feeling comfortable - now he is going to the cold northwest in a new league. that is very very very hard to do. especially as a hitter.

im telling you i would be hating our team for the next 6 years, if beltre played the way he played his first 4 -- paying almost 12 mill each year? come on now.

wow! awesome post dr.pepper. informative stuff. I'll be on the lookout for your posts on the dodgers in the future.

as far as the trade goes, they are now saying there are some posibiltys it might not happen, so nothing is set in stone just yet.

youre right JJ, as it stands the sox dont really stack up. but i saw them win one in my lifetime so the stress level as a fan gets way dropped, and I can just enjoy betting and following basbeball without hooting and hollering about 'this is our year'.

so are the yanks a lock to win it if they dont get RJ? the trade isn't completed yet. i cant see them winning a division before they have their players.

and is all the talk about them winning contigent that giambi plays to his subroid potential? or that he is allowed to play at all? will losing stottlemyre hurt them in pitching? can they walk on the back of kevin brown again? even though he is almost pushing 40? will pavano be able to find the sucess he had in the national league in the american league? what about sheff and his now chronic injuries? bernie williams - does he have another go around in him?

in my opinion a winning team is based on chemistry. if they find that , then they are a lock absolutely. but until something changes - $$$ doesn't translate into chemistry, it translates into "egos".

wow thats a great point. I forget about that. he really got the most out of any pitcher wearing a yankee uniform. even contreras wasnt that bad if you subtract his starts vs. Boston.
