Escaped convicted murderer Richard Matt was shot and killed by authorities in upstate New York today, according to officials, 20 days after he made an elaborate escape from prison.
Matt was shot and killed at about 4:10 p.m. in Elephant's Head, New York, about 20 miles south of the Canadian border and just 50 miles away from Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora, NY.


Officials believe the other convicted murder he escaped with, David Sweat, is still on the run, sources said. State police know Sweat's "general vicinity" and were “trying to close him off now."

Matt and Sweat escaped from the Clinton Correctional Facility early June 6 and more than 1,100 officers have been involved in the search.


The prisoners used power tools to cut through the back of their adjacent cells at the maximum security prison, about 20 miles south of the Canadian border, police said. They broke through a brick wall, then cut into a steam pipe and slithered through it, finally emerging outside the prison walls through a manhole.


Matt was serving 25 years to life in prison after he kidnapped and beat a man to death in 1997.


Sweat was serving a life sentence after he was convicted of killing a Broome County sheriff's deputy in 2002.

I like the part when they asked if Matt shot at the cops, they said No.
They asked him to drop the Shotgun and he didn't answer, so they Shot him.

Not surprising to me at all that the cops said they won't stop looking, I'd expected they'd keep on looking. Would've surprised me if they'd said "We're gonna stop looking", I would have enjoyed the reaction to that, from the media.

remember, he's the one that shot a cop 22 times and then ran over him. While I also would like to hear the story also. But seeing that we are on a gambling site, I don't like the odds of him coming out of this alive.

Suggested above they shot Richard for not answering when they asked him to drop the shot gun, this guy shoots a cop 22 times then runs him over? Yeah....the "won't get shot" play serious -ev here.

Is it 100% absolute for certain that he's a dead man? Its hard to say ......................... but yes.

In Handicapping this one, "will or won't get shot dead", we'd need to factor in that yes, as much as we'd like to hear the "story" behind their breakout that story getting told and widely heard could only encourage "unrest" in prisons nationwide. Dudes encourage by the story to try and escape.

Huge factor in my opinion, so huge in fact that no way a Play On "won't get shot dead" could be justified, beyond just trying to cash the big dog number.

Would love to see what Odds would be posted on this prop though.

I'd take a leap on "won't get shot".

Yeah, shows like 60 minutes, 48 hours, Dateline and 20/20 are pretty pissed they shot Matt...
Agree it would be Great to have the "Real" story... almost sure he had more than two Prison workers help them.

I would be surprised if he is taken alive......Going to a super max prison and living in solitary for the rest of his life.....He rather be dead....LOL
