Breaking news just now (1:05pm EDT) as reported on Fox TV news - tests at a suspected WMD site (Iraqis' alerted troops to their location) were done on one or more barrels (of many) supposedly have detected the presence of several banned chemical agents (Sarin nerve gas, Tabun and a blistering agent) at a location in central Iraq. Apparently when one of these barrels were opened initially, people exposed began blistering and vomiting, but I don't know who opened them. This has not yet been confirmed by the military, so I'd advise holding your breath until it is. However, the specificity of the agent identifications to me means we may have gotten the smoking gun.

Early Tests Suggest Weapon 'Cocktail' Found in Iraq

KERBALA, Iraq (Reuters) - Preliminary tests on substances found at a military training camp in central Iraq suggest they contain a cocktail of banned chemical weapons, including deadly nerve agents, U.S. officers said on Monday.

Maj. Michael Hamlet of the U.S. 101st Airborne Division said the initial tests revealed levels of nerve agents sarin and tabun and the blister agent lewisite, Reuters correspondent Kieran Murray reported from a U.S. military post at Kerbala.

Hamlet said a team of experts would carry out further tests as early as Tuesday on the substances, discovered at the camp in Albu Mahawish, on the Euphrates river between the central Iraqi cities of Kerbala and Hilla, site of ancient Babylon.

"If tests from our experts confirm this, this could be the smoking gun. It would prove (Iraqi President Saddam Hussein (news - web sites)) has the weapons we have said he has all along," Hamlet said. "But right now we just don't know."

The United States invaded Iraq on March 20 to overthrow Saddam and prevent him using banned chemical weapons. Many other members of the United Nations (news - web sites) opposed the attack, saying U.N. inspectors should be given more time to disarm Iraq

As we are able to talk to the Iraqi people you will see many more of these sites. It's just going to take time to talk to the right people.

Prediction: the same people laffing at no evidence of WMDS will now not only scurry for cover but immediately dismiss it and switch to other topics, like Grantt (predictable as always).

Jazz - That's the whole Liberal strategy. Bitch about something, then when wrong, move on to something else.

But these are just traces of WMD. An intelligent person might deduce that there are traces from previously destroyed weapons.

Why does your side get off so much on WMD's ?

I never said Saddam didn't have WMD's. If he was not building up some means of defense then I would say he truly has failed his people. The thing you don't realize is that other countries need WMD's to deter US . Saddam just never got there. You see NK is also violating UN agreements that THEY signed, however we will never attack them because they can actually defend themselves. How does it give us a right to attack a soverign nation just because we think they might have WMD's ? WE HAVE MORE WMD'S THAN THE REST OF THE WORLD COMBINED !!!!!!!!!!

Save the "He is not following aggrements that he signed". That is BS and we all know it. WE HAVE SIGNED MANY AGGREMENTS AND THEN BACKED OUT.

By the way - this is operation Iraqi Freedom - it isn't about WMD'S anymore. You must have missed the latest excuse change.

traces? in drums?

lol - radio, this story isn't proven yet, you might be right. But let's say they prove it beyond doubt, that those drums were full of agents. In all seriousness, when confirmation here or elsewhere is received, isn't it true that you'll just say that 'everyone knew they had them' and move on to another subject?

For me, the key reason for this war was NOT regime change, but disarmament. If they confirm the presence of banned WMDS stored at that military base outside of Karbala, Bush and the US intelligence agencies are vindicated.

Also, someone else at another site also had this from NPR - who knows if that one is right either? It looks like it's the same site ...

U.S. Troops Find Possible Chemical Warheads Site

Soldiers with the Army's 101st Airborne Division discover what they believe to be an Iraqi storage site for chemical warheads, U.S. commander says. Describing the discovery as a potential "smoking gun," the official says soldiers found in a warehouse outside Baghdad about 20 medium-range rockets with warheads containing sarin and mustard gases. Hear NPR's John Burnett. April 7, 2003

Danny: take a pill and calm down. I am responding to the scores of topics posted by YOUR side chiding the progress in finding WMDS.

I think the war is going great, btw.

Danny: all you are doing is starting the whole 'why war in the first place' argument - I'm not interested in that any more, though I think the whole 'freedom' thing is being overdone on purpose, not because WMDs won't be found but as our message to the Arab world that it is something that has to be done while we're there. If Saddam had disarmed, we would never have gone in, and all the peace activists could indeed rejoice - the fact that of course Saddam would still brutally murder thousands of civilians every year would disturb none of the street activists.

Btw, I'm proving my point - you've changed the subject (or are trying to) to NK. I'm going to stay on this WMD subject until it's proved, and then I'm going to go into every single mocking topic on this subject and post the proof.

My questions to you Jazz are never meant to be answered. They are solely intended to show how one sided you are and you inability to see the forest through the trees.

"At this point in time Iraq no longer has nukes..."

Thanks to Israel Iraq doesn't have nukes. And if anyone cares to remember Israel was blasted by the rest of the world for blowing up the Iraqi nuke plant.

Kind of reminds me of the a-holes on this thread that are pandering to Sadam and ripping the US.

Its funny, there are a couple of simple-minded left wing punks completely trashing the USA day in and day out; virtually talking to themselves. These fuks aren't even worthy of a response and since I already have been branded as a racist, there is no use in engaging them.

Yes there are WMD in Iraq and yes this war couldn't be going better.

WAR AGAINST ISLAM. I stand by it until the majority of Muslims prove otherwise.
