Doesn't "grinding out out a profit" tend to mean having a lot of good action? Are you talking about large spot betting with that or are you talking about grinding out a profit by betting all the advantage plays available.

For sharp bettors, the more often they bet the more they profit.
True, but for people like me that aren't sharp across the board, you have to pick your spots and be very selective. That's why I don't place all that many bets. I do understand what you're saying though. Much better to hit 55% of 2000 a year than 60% of 200.

Show me the money. One bet or hundred, show me the money. I've got to run, have to get down to the Laundromat and see how my syndicate with the unemployed Housewives did this weekend.

We are expecting big things this week!:smoker2:

If all things are equal, meaning the odds ones gets are the same, and the amount of the bet is the same then betting more games and having a lower (but still profitable) win rate is generally better than betting a small amount of games and hoping to hit a higher percentage.

It is all about volume. The only way it isn't about volume is if you start out on a ridiculous tear and go 20-5 or something crazy. Then it might actually be better to quit right there and watch, especially if it is in the NFL where you have just as much chance of going 5-20 in your next 25 bets.

Depends on the sport.

Id say break even in horses. Doing that is amazing if you can do it. I cant yet but horse matchups are helping. anyway, I cravecravecrave horse racing action and it gives me the FIX. Its my vice and that is the way Im wired. I saw the 1976 KY derby on TV as a boy, happened to pick the winner as I liked the name "Foolish Pleasure" (stillt he best horse name ever as it sums up my passion in horse racing and maybe sports betting!)

Poker - winning only not breaking even. I cant imagine a more boring time spending time at a card table and hoping to break even.

Sports - Winning at the end of the day but that is by winning on sharp plays, beating the line moves and scalps and middles. I dont even watch those games I just watch the scores on the interent or whatever and hope to get my 55%. But also action as you have to have something on Sunday NFL, the playoff games for example or the Final 4. There is a need for action and if you can break even in the actino plays that is a great year.

I try to not look too hard for plays. They are either there or they are not. Never care if I have action or not on any particular day.

Have no interest in action. Strictly been in this business for the long term profit. Approach it like any other investment with the intent to generate a rate of return on an annual basis and let it compound over time. Funds are kept separate and distinct from all other investments and liquid assets.

Action without profit is like having two girlfriends on the rag at the same time.

Even amongst the best, only the well-connected Pros(some of which have close ties to syndicates), BMs(mostly only Large ones), Movers/Middlers, Syndicates, and sheer Whale players(varying degrees of sharpness..if any at all for many), should even consider action/board play as a player(even they will often get hurt doing so)..all others(99.8% of bettors) best be looking for their spots..if wanting to last!

11/10 is as strong as death and taxes..oh yeah..vig is a tax..see what I mean!?

Excellent point and one that should be not taken with a grain of salt.

If I wanted action I'd go pick up a hooker. I play to make money.

Ditto. I hope to make it to one of these RX bashes on day, and I would like nothing more than to meet some people who also gamble for a living.
