Brazil fingerprinting Americans

After the U.S.A. put new wartime security measures into action which required fingerprinting foreigners entering the U.S., Brazil thought they would retaliate and do the same to U.S. citizens that traveled to that leftist country.

It hasn't worked out well for these brilliant Brazilians though. It seems their fingerprinting equipment hasn't worked in weeks and there is a police strike as well to further complicate the matter. Walking the walk wasn't as easy as talking the talk in this case.

They did it for show, it never was meant to accomplish anything but singlehandedly point out the hassle and sensation of being treated that way upon arriving. They also charge $100 for visas that need a long formal process in many cases, just like the US imposes on Brazilians. Everywhere else in the world you might pay a small fee or nothing; everyone wants Americans to come visit and spend dollars. Brazil takes the approach of an eye for an eye and charges the ridiculously high visa fee and heavy background check even though they serve no real useful purpose other than pride.

Kman, many people do not share your lack of concern for personal privacy.

OTOH, I know many people do feel your way.

But I'm answering your reply to What's The Big Deal?

Given so many choices for international travel, I'm pretty sure I'd preefer to go to a country who did not fingerprint me unless they could demonstrate I was a viable threat to someone there.
