Very nice pickup for Atlanta.

Braves trade with Pirates, Acquire McLouth
by Bill Baer on Wednesday, June 3, 2009 6:21 pm EDT | Permanent Link
<!--<div class="entry">--> Per the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette:
The Pirates have traded center fielder Nate McLouth to the Atlanta Braves tonight, according to two sources, but there is no immediate word on the return.
This is verified on the Braves website:
The Braves have acquired All-Star outfielder Nate McLouth from the Pirates in exchange for three highly regarded Minor League prospects.
A Major League source confirmed that the Pirates will send McLouth to the Braves in exchange for right-handed pitcher Charlie Morton, left-handed pitcher Jeff Locke and outfielder Gorkys Hernandez.
No surprise that the Braves were looking for an outfielder, but this one comes way out of left field. A good haul for both teams.

yeah highly regarded...watch none of them reach the major leagues. this is what the pirates do, they trade their all-stars for prospects who never make the big leagues. piss poor ownership

Morton was so-so last year when he was up with Atlanta. He was putting up very good numbers this year in triple A.

Charlie Morton pitched HS right up the road here for Redding CT. Good guy, has very good stuff.
He was lights out in school, talk of the state here.
Signed straight out of HS, never pitched college, straight to pros, is what I call an AAAA pitcher, better than triple A, not quite major league pro.
Has been virtually unhittable this season in Richmond (Gwinett)AAA, 7-2, ratio of 1.0, ERA of 2.52, K's 8 per 9.
Control (walks) is his issue, if he can find the strike zone more consistantly can be a good 3 or 4 starter in the show, if not, career AAA pitcher.

I wish my home boy well.

McLouth

The Pittsburgh Pirates announced Friday that they will designate outfielder and Whitehall High School alum Nate McLouth for assignment, calling up Matt Hague from Class AAA Indianapolis to replace him.
McLouth, an All-Star in 2008 before being traded from Pittsburgh to the Atlanta Braves during the 2009 season, had returned to Pittsburgh this season on a one-year contract that paid him about $1.75 million. However, the veteran outfielder was hitting .140 this season and hadn’t gotten a hit since May 6th.

Per Major League Baseball rules, McLouth has seven days to clear waivers, after which Pittsburgh has three days to either trade or release McLouth unless he accepts the assignment and reports to Indianapolis.
