When you have the chance to go #1 in the draft you take it. What happened to him is exactly the reason he should of entered the NFL draft as a junior. Nothing gained by staying in school.

Of course it's hindsight but this is exactly what could happen and is exactly why you take the payday when you have the chance.

he did take out an insurance policy. i don't know the details of it, but i'm sure it'll pay nicely if he can't go. i'd be surprised to see come back this year -- why flirt with disaster, especially considering how byu was getting to the qb all night long. hopefully i'm wrong, but teams are going to be bringing the heat all season long.

This is not hindsight.

This was obvious even before he went down. If Stoops cares about his own players the way coaches claim they do, he would have told Bradford, you are off the team.

If that was my son and he was going to be the #1 overall pick, I would have had him in aircast until the NFL draft.

$40M in guaranteed money.

It has always been my motto that if you can go in the top 10 in your sport you leave early. Education is something that will be there if you want to finish, due to lots of varying factors being drafted in the top 10 isn't.

I would give my own son this advice if faced with the decision.

But in the case of Bradford I think the BCS championship was a goal of his.

The Insurance polices that the players take only pays out if you never play again. Regardless of college or pro.

So, unless you suffer paralysis, it is not likely to payoff.

Too many variables. We saw it with Matt Leinhart and how did that turn out?

Kind of like the line in School Ties.

You used me to win a Football game and I will use you to get into Harvard.

I was at a wedding over the weekend and found myself debating this with some friends. Insurance policy is peanuts compared to what his signing bonus would've been, plus whatever he'd make over his contract wherever he went.
He knew he wouldn't have protection, he was trying to prove a point, not gain experience, in my opinion.

He'll come back. Apparently this is a 2-4 week injury. Doesn't speak well for him if he just sits longer than necessary and will raise doubts ad to his health. If he comes back strong then it says something about him. That said he certainly shouldn't rush back in the lower range of time. Give it 4-5 weeks to be 100% and then come back.

What point was he trying to prove?

I'm more surprised that TE Jermain Gresham didn't go pro. He basically had nothing to prove, and wasn't going to be getting any better by staying an extra year. And now he's also injured.

I was really shocked when he returned.

I thought the line last week about the black man being more tolerant of drugs than a white man was dumb but this takes the cake.

Hey, "I'm the coach of a Division I powerhouse football team and I get paid millions to win football games but if the greatest QB I've ever coached decides to return to my team on his own accord for another year of football I'm going to bench him."

Are you serious with this?
