First posted play of the season goes tonight. For those that don't know, I am a former baseball player and it is my sport. I've obviously had a lot more success capping football, but I know the game of baseball very well.
Will be posting plays sporadically throughout the postseason, and I like this spot tonight.
Good luck.
4* LA Angels +122
If you felt last game was a must-win, what does that make this? Angels have a golden opportunity to tie this series up, and go into a decisive game 5 at home.
Yankees blew a tough game last night through some overmanaging by Joe Girardi, and that sting has to carry over into today, especially if they fall behind early.
Yankees go with CC Sabathia on 3 days rest. Sabathia has historically been a different pitcher on the road, and he is 0-2 vs. the Angels this season as they have teed off on him getting about 17 hits in 12 innings, and an ERA of 6 this year. With him being on the road, on short rest, vs. a team that has owned him this doesn't set up well for the Yankees to be favored on their west coast trip.
Angels team average is up about 10 points vs. lefties in their last 10 games against them.
Angels counter with Scott Kazmir. The Yankees have been making their living this postseason through the long ball through Jeter and A-Rod. Other than those two, this lineup has not hit particularly well. in 30+ at bats for Jeter, he is hitting .112 vs. Kazmir. In 20+ at bats against Kazmir, ARod is hitting .132 off of him. In 50+ at bats they have combined to hit 1 HR off Kazmir. The guy who has owned Kazmir has been Teixera, and he is in a mini slump right now.
Kazmir has been solid since the All-star break, and he obviously has post season experience with the Rays. Yankees are cold vs. left handed pitching lately, as their team average has dipped about 40 points last 10 games facing them.
Mariano pitched last night, and his cutter is nasty when he is fresh and it has that good crisp break to it. But the cutter on successive days can lose some of the sharpness, and flatten out.
Yankees are just 1-7 in their last 8 postseason road games, and the Angels are undefeated at home in this postseason.
These two teams have essentially split their games this season and these two teams are fairly even.
