Lost on Thursday with the Steelers. Not that Pitt deserved to cover, but the Hines Ward fumble could have been a Steel cover. Starting 0-1:

2* Miami Dolphins +4 -110

Dolphins czar Bill Parcells and Tony Sparano have bred a winning mentality in Miami. Thee Dolphins no longer expect to lose football games, they expect to win. That carried over into a 4-0 preseason record as they continued to learn how to win games. Dolphins lead the NFL in turnover margin last year and that was no fluke. They pressure the QB with early season versions (aka fresh versions) of Joey Porter, Jason Taylor and new comer Cameron Wake. They are super efficent on offense with control freak Chad Pennington. Ronnie Brown is 2 years removed from knee surgery and was the NFLs leading rusher 2 years ago before the injury happened. He looked really good in preseason making sharp cuts. Ted Ginn goes into his 3rd year at WR, and that whole Dolphins team last year was very young overall and they are another year older and in the system for their 2nd year.

Matt Ryan had a terrific 1st season, but there is a reason sophomore slumps exist. The expectations placed on him are high, same for Michael Turner and co. It is going to be tough to duplicate those results with the pressure and expectations placed on this Falcons team.

The Phins always play tight games, and in a game I feel they have a very good chance to win outright, I'll gladly take the 4 points and even more so gladly go against 60% of the public and go with the live dog.

3* Washington Redskins +6 -110

Like their offseason additions, I like Campbell at QB who continues to improve, a healthy Portis, improved defense, etc while the Giants have WR issues, lose Ward, have a few distractions, etc. Wash may win outright.

2* Chicago Bears +5 -110

Jay Cutler makes this team a lot better and he will have a chip on his shoulder to show Denver on a National Stage on opening night. 5 points is too many here. Cutler already had his road baptism in preseason when they vsisted Denver and got an earful all night. Like Bears defense, special teams, and QB better here and getting points.

Yeah, my thoughts did a 360 on Miami and Atlanta. Atlanta is for real. For the bettors that didnt watch that game, a 19-7 score looks like a struggle. But Atlanta is VERY physical, especially on defense. They look very, very good.

Not so fast my friend. I live in Atlanta and went to the game today. Atlanta has overhauled their defense bringing in younger and much faster guys. The flip side to that is inexperience. With this being game one, I would say that the jury is out as to whether Atlanta is that good or Miami is that bad. SD and Phillip Rivers shredded our starters on defense in preseason. Next week we have Carolina coming to town on the heels of a ass whooping from Philly. We really need three or four weeks to sort some of these things out.

Hindsight Reply as I went to bed myself after playing CHI 2H pk for a regular

Answer - YES...But must be weighed in context with what was happening on field.

At halftime, both teams rushing for under 50 yds,but CHI was avging 4.7 ypc

Also the four turnovers in first half and GB only leading by eight?

Finally, CHI was set to receive 2H kickoff, which is a small assist in most games.

It seemed a reasonable spot to play Bears at PK and I'm glad we cashed
