I know there is a boxing forum, but this is new and gambling related and would like feedback. Thanks.

Boxing Scorecards Point Spreads:

This week I decided to try something new with Boxing. Too often a fighter is favored by such a big moneyline that players often don't want to lay the chalk. When looking at the NFL, if Texas is playing the N.E. Patriots, one would be hard pressed to take the underdog Texans with the moneyline. However a +20 with Texas would be more appetizing. You can lose the game , but cover the Point Spread. Same holds true here. You can bet a live underdog, lose the fight, and still cover the point spread. Takes away from the 'bad beat' hometown decsions that have plagued boxing in the past. In same respect, you can lay the point spread on the favorite and avoid those high moneylines.

Here's how it works.

*The point spread is determined by the difference in the combined total of all 3 judges scorecards for each fighter. Bouts must complete the total scheduled rounds listed.
Example: The point Spread on Fighter A is -18. Fighter A wins bout by scores of 120-108,

116-114,117-111. Fighter A total 353 minus Fighter B total 333. The score would be 20. Therefore

Fighter A -18 would win the wager.

*A bout that does not complete the listed scheduled rounds is declared 'No Action' and wagers are refunded.

*If point spread and difference tie, wagers are declared a 'Push' and wagers are refunded.

Here's one of this weeks bouts being offered. Check Wagerweb and BetOddesa (I think its Ok to mention b/c Wagerweb is parent company that advertises here)
for the other 'Point Spread' Bouts listed this week.

5th March, 2005-Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas, Nevada, USA 11pm est
Jose Luis Castillo -17
Julio Diaz +17

It won't work because big fav fighters usually win by KO. You'll have fights that are one sided and then stopped in the last round. Bettors do not like no action bets when there guy wins every rd only to have the bet refunded after a ref calls a halt to the fight in the later rds. Its a prop bet that will only attract the sharp bettors.

<TABLE class=tborder cellSpacing=1 cellPadding=6 width="100%" align=center border=0><TBODY><TR><TD class=thead colSpan=2></TD></TR><TR title="Post 1806129" vAlign=top><TD class=alt1 align=middle width=125>Chuck Sims</TD><TD class=alt2>It won't work because big fav fighters usually win by KO.</TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE>I have to disagree I'm writing 2 way action, so it's working out the gate. But here's some fights to think about.

Here's the -300 or better favs from the last few weeks.

2/17/2005 Jhonny Gonzalez -375 Beat Adonis Rivas by 12 RD DECISION
2/17/2005 Deleon -700 Lost Celestino Caballero by 12 RD DECISION
2/18/2005 Margarito -700 Beat Lujan by TKO in RD 10
2/18/2005Clottey -400 Steve Martinez NO CONTEST
2/18/2005Arnaoutis -2000 BEAT Roberto Santa Cruz by 12 RD DECISION
2/19/2005 Taylor -825 BEAT Edouard by KO RD 3
2/19/2005 Bernard Hopkins -700 BEAT Howard Eastman 12 RD DECISION
2/25/2005 Matt Skelton -1350 BEAT Fabio Moli by KO in RD 6
2/26/2005 Zsolt Erdei -310 BEAT Hugo Hernan Garay by 12 RD DECISION
2/26/2005 Miguel Angel Cotto -1600 BEAT DeMarcus Corley by KO in RD 5

Taking a sample from JULY 2004 with an unusual high number of favorites that won. In fact, one of the worst booking months of 'chalk' in 2004:

Total Bouts with a Side and Total

FAVORITES WIN : 43
UNDERDOGS WIN: 9
DRAWS: 1
DECISIONS: 29
KO's: 22
FAVORITE BY KO: 18 BOUTS

I think option will work. Naturally point spreads would not be offered on every bout on the board. If you look at this weeks bouts that the point spread is offered on, the TOTALS are:

10.5 Flat
10 Flat
9.5ov-325
9.5o-135

While any of these bouts can end by KO at any time, its a decent field. Boxers are ALL Different. Some are punchers and some are simply boxers. There are fighters that are -400 or better in every bout, yet they have a KO% of less than 20%. Every fighter is different, as is every pointspread.

Square or Sharp naturally you will have to pick your spots. Hopefully it works.

I hear so many people say the line is too high I will pass. I think you will definetely write alot of action. all the people that was passing before without a doubt will play, its just like handicapping a football or a basketball game. this is one the best ideas ever to come to the industry. I never thought I would ever be able to bet on a pointspread in a boxing match. wish you all the best GOOD LUCK..
