I know there are some very knowledgeable boxing posters in here. So I have a question for you guys. Why at the weigh in do the boxers normally weigh so much less that the actual fight night? I have no Idea what is going on with this but it seems to happen 99% of the time. Some one please shed some light on this for me?

One answer, it wasn't always this way. Used to be when weigh-in was on the day of the fight.
Perhaps in the interest of making sure less fights are postponed due to weight related
issues and less revenue is lost, this practice is now the norm. Fighters(some, not all) have problems making weight, and so by doing whatever
it takes to make the contracted weight the day before, they do so, and then, depending on weight
class, will go on to put on 2-3 lbs to as much as 10-15 or even more on occasion. I think this
just makes it easy for some guys who are having a problem, but that's my take.

also some guys really have to fight to make weight...drying out, getting in the sauna, running,i`ve heard of some taking diuretics...all kinds of unhealthy stuff to make weight....and then to have to fight that night....can leave guys in an unhealthy, vulnerable state right before a fight.....this gives them a day to rehydrate and and not be in such a weak vulnerable physical state the day of the fight.....

the downside is that some guys gain 3 pounds and some as much as 10-15 pounds....which sometimes,in actuality, leaves a welterweight fighting a legit jr middleweight or even a middleweight....

Sorry Franks but If I was the guy asking this I dont know if I would undertand your answer.
Every fighter is in a certain weight class. If they are in the 140 weight class they need to be 140 or under when they weigh in for the fight. The weigh in is 1 day before the fight. All they have to do is make the certain weight at the weigh in. As long as they do that they can walk into the ring at any weight they want.
