I'm lucky to even land the ball on the green on a par 3, let alone a hole in one. I have however rolled one (not 50) sactioned 300 game on 11/04/02. It certainly take a touch of luck, as I remember getting a light hit on the 10th strike that carried and one in the 5th. Strikes 11 and 12 were easier than getting up for the 10th.

BTW, the ABC gives you a choice of ring or plaque. I never plan on wearing a ring for bowling, so the plaque was just fine by me.

Technology has made bowling too easy.

An interesting side note is that during the league season of 1990-1991 there were 14,192 sanctioned 300 games by ABC members, while during the 1961-62 season (the earliest statistics 300's were kept), there were only 790 sanctioned 300 games. Ironically in 1962 there were 11,476 bowling centers, and according to the ABC, in 1992, the number had dwindled to 7,904

had the first 9 strikes once. have a couple of 268's to my name..

golf is a different story..

2 hole in ones
1 double eagle . 2 on a par 5

have also holed out 14 times from the fairway on par 4's .

have played my fair share of golf...

if a person bowled 4 games and played 18 holes every day for the next 2 years , i believe the 300 game would come first...

I may be wrong, but I believe they only give you one ring/plaque now. Years ago, they would give you one for every 300.

If I ever get #2, I'll let you know. Maybe I'll ask someone this week.

As for technology, it's certainly made the game easier however the same can be said for golf, could it not? I will say that the oil patterns that are being applied now (i.e. SportBowling) have made the challenge VERY difficult. It's not your average league shot.

technology has certainly helped golfers hit it longer and straighter for sure. holes were guys would have hit a 4 iron 20 years ago they are now hitting 6 iron.

i do think technology has made it easier to get a 300 though .

also lane conditons are easier. if i can find the track on the lane , my ball will hook into or very close to the pocket every time.. then its just a matter of carrying the pins.

also you dont have to deal with the elements at the bowling alley.. the wind has never blown my ball off line..

I think either way, you pay for the ring. There are different grades-10 o 14 k gold for example. My dad has 3 or 4 300's and he got a ring for the first one, but I think he paid for the upgrade.
As for the 50 300's, it's definately possible. There are many individuals bowling in 3-4 leagues a week(ugh) year round.

All in all, golf is a much more difficult game to gain consistency IMO.

Aside from the pros, the only hole-in-one's that I've seen are the lucky worm-burners on the par 3's. I guess with all the surface area hit their chances must increase drastically.

At least the bowling takes skill - not one lucky swing.

For those a little more closely connected to golf than me, where would a scratch golfer be most competitive? Regional tournaments? Local/club tournaments?

I'm just trying to see if the 200-scratch comparision is an accurate one. I can tell you that averaging 200 doesn't really mean much. I do it and am not competitive on the local sportshot tournament circuit. I simply do not have the game do deal with the heavily conditioned lanes.

i'd actually say scratch golf would more equate to maybe 215 average , maybe even 220..

if you are a 0 or a 1 handicap and you have established that number by playing multiple courses , you can play tournaments at any level...

agreed W#1.

I knew that was coming Ace. My golf game is about as good as paper ******* after a few drinks. If it's just a fun scramble or something I'll get pretty f'd up, but if I have to look at my own score I usually wait till afterwards.

They are not giving out rings anymore are they?

You can get 1 award for a 300 per year. Ring, watch, plaque etc. The professional bowlers association gives a very nice gold ring and adds a diamond for every one after the first. Much nicer than the ABC ring. I have 11 300's in PBA competition. Need 2 more to fill the ring. Even though nimue doesnt believe me.

I've probably said too much as I like nobody knowing who I am.

I really dont think bowling a 300 is that hard, for great bowlers. I am friends w/ a pro bowler and I am sure he has over 500 in his life.

The current record is in the 90's by Jeff Carter of Illinios
