Hi guys, just looking for a seasoned bettor's opinion on a bet I placed tonight. I took the Yankees/Orioles 5-inning run line at over 4.5. As you may know, the game ended due to rain in the bottom of the fifth in favor of the Orioles, since they were up 3-1 at the time. Only 4 runs were scored at this time, but the game never went 5 full innings. I assumed my bet would be graded a no-wager, but was instead graded as a loss. Before I make a big deal with Bovada, can anyone give me some input? I assumed that all 5 inning lines would be graded AFTER completion of the fifth inning, and any game ending before five full innings would be graded a no wager and refunded. Thanks in advance!

They have a rule book for all that on the website.
Don't know the exact rule on the 5 inning thing but I had Bmore tonight and the game was graded a winner even though the game was not complete.
But that was the full 9 inning line.

Thanks choptalk, do you know where I can find that rule book on their site? Your bet is a winner because the game was considered complete, not rain delayed, cancelled, or suspended. The Orioles did win, so your bet would stand as a winner.

Yea just found it.
It said a game is graded action after 5 innings or 4.5 innings if the home team is winning.
Well the home team was winning after 4.5 so the play counts.

I saw that too, but that refers to game winners/losers. It doesn't say anything about the 5-inning lines, but it does say that the totals will graded as no wager if the game is called before 9 innings, if you made the 9 inning bet. I'm pretty sure my bet should be no action.

No it said sides would not count but totals do count.
Thats a weird rule but thats what it says.

Thanks man, that's the same thing I'm reading. Says nothing about the 5-inning lines. But it does say Total/Runline wagers are official after 9 innings of play (8.5 innings if the home team is winning). If a game is called before 9 innings have been played Total and Runline wagers are settled as No Action..So I'm guessing that, based on that rule, the 5-inning total/runline bet would be the same deal.

The mistake by bovada is not having anything in the rulebook regarding 5 inning bets.
This was a mistake on their part and this will put them in a bad situation if they don't grade this game no action.
You are basically at their mercy on this because there is no official rule on their site when it comes to this.

Read rule #2: 2. Total/Runline wagers are official after 9 innings of play (8.5 innings if the home team is winning). If a game is called before 9 innings have been played Total and Runline wagers are settled as NO ACTION

Pinny posts the action as "1st half/5 innings".

Once 30 outs are recorded, it doesn't matter if the game is snowed out. Your pinny 5 inning bet will be graded win, loss, or push. 29 outs equal full refunds all around.

Would some books say 1/2 of 9 innings is 4.5 innings?

I've always wondered about the wording "1st half". A judge would say half a game is 4.5 innings, as would I. Would playing 4.5 innings twice not equal 9 innings?

9 innings would never be in the rules wording of a "first half" wager.

Bovada does not call them half game lines.
They call them 5 inning bets.

Well, they graded it a loss despite my protests. But they paid the under bet so I guess I can't argue. Oh well, lesson learned...although I'm sure it doesn't happen that often where rain ends a gain in between top and bottom of 5th inning. Damn.

Hi Akillies, I bet the over 4.5 runs for the 5 inning line, not the full game line.

Still the "game" did not complete the 5 innings you bet on. I also think it should've been a push for everyone. Unless there is a rule that spells this situation out that you've overlooked. I don't think its unreasonable to ask that they cite to the specific rule as it pertains to totals for "5 inning" bets. Just my two cents. Good luck.

It's really a judgement call. Here's another book's rules on 1st 5. On one hand, you expect to get 5 full innings out of your bet. On the other hand, according to Major League Baseball, I believe the Yankees/Orioles game is official at 5 completed innings even though the Orioles never started their at-bats in the bottom of the 5th. Similar to how the game is considered to go 9 innings even though it only goes 8.5 really if the home team is winning.

First-Half Wagers (5 innings):

  1. All wagers on baseball first halfs (5 innings) will be decided on the basis of the score at the end of five full innings.
  2. If a game does not go five full innings, all first-half wagers (5 innings) will be canceled.
  3. Once 5 full innings have been completed, all wagers on the first half (5 innings) will stand.
  4. When pitchers are offered for the game, all first-half wagers (5 innings) must list both pitchers. If either listed pitcher does not start, wagers on the first half (5 innings) will be canceled.

Baseball Wagering

Baseball game moneyline and first 5 inning wagers have the following pitcher options:
Listed Pitchers: Both listed pitchers must start for moneyline wagers to have action. You have no action if either or both pitchers do not start the game. All baseball total and run-line wagers are listed pitchers only.
List One Pitcher: The pitcher you specify must start for moneyline wagers to have action. You have no action if your specified pitcher does not start the game. If the pitcher opposing your selected pitcher is changed, the moneyline price will be computed with revised odds based on the new pitcher. This wagering option is available only over the phone.
Action: All moneyline wagers have action. However, if there is a pitching change, the moneyline price will be computed with revised odds based on the new pitchers.
All regular season and exhibition baseball games are considered official after 5 innings of play (4½ if the home team is winning). If a game is called or suspended after 5 innings, the winner is determined by the score after the last full inning of play – unless the home team scores to tie or takes the lead in the bottom half of the inning, in that case, the winner is then determined by the score at the time the game is called. When betting on baseball totals or run-lines, the game must go 9 innings (8½ if the home team is winning).
Professional post season games are not official until a winner is declared. If a professional post season game begins then is delayed to a later date, all wagers will have action with the final score result on that date. If a post season game does not begin on the date scheduled, all wagers will be graded no action.
Regardless of their starting/completion date, NCAA baseball tournament, NCAA softball tournament, international tournament and youth league tournament games have action with the final result score.
First 5 inning lines are graded at the end of the 5th inning. All 5 inning wagers have action at that time, regardless whether the game is completed. The following propositions have action at the time they occur, regardless whether the game is completed or official: 1st 5 inning wagers, team to score first, 1st inning wagers or any wager involving a team or player to achieve an outcome first. The following propositions will be graded NO ACTION if a game does not go 8½-9 innings and is an official completed game on that day: team statistical match-ups, player match-ups (including total bases), team total runs, H-R-E wagers, or any wager involving an over/under format.

Any baseball, softball, or little league game ending early as a result of a mercy rule will have action on all wagers (unless otherwise noted).
All position players involved in baseball proposition wagers must START for action (unless otherwise noted). Scoring for total base wagering: Single=1 point, Double=2 points, Triple=3 points, HR=4 points, (Walks & Stolen Bases do not count). Player with the most points in the game is the winner.
Regular season series wagers have action as long as a minimum of two games are completed. Only the first three games of any series count for wagering purposes. Once a team wins two games in a series, the series will be graded at that time.
Total runs scored in series wagers must have all three games played on the dates originally scheduled. Wagers will be graded no action if a game is called before completion, suspended, or does not go full 9 innings (8½ if the home team is winning) on the date scheduled. Runs scored in extra innings are included in the total when wagering on total runs scored in series. Pitchers listed on the first game of the series must start for wagers to have action.
Pitcher strikeout props are for strikeouts thrown only unless otherwise noted.
The Baseball Grand Salami has no action if any game is rained out or final in less than 8½ innings.
The total hits for each team, shown on the television broadcast at the end of an inning, is official for single inning total hits wagers. Scoring changes after an inning ends are not valid for wagering purposes.
Any hit ball where an out is recorded without the ball touching the gro
