funny how I have never even seen you around here! Did you change your username?? Well you dont see many posts about the yankees from me because i am not a Yankees fan. I am just shocked at how well they are playing now.

NATURALLY, you have to be from Boston.

The only other thread I've ever seen you post was when you said the Sox were falling fast and the Yanks would win the World Series.

And yes, naturally I'm from Boston. After all, I did say I'd give another team (even the Yanks) credit if they pull off a playoff berth or more after being where they were. Wouldn't see that out of a New Yorker. Hell . . . 3 years later and you're still not giving the Sox credit for 2004.

the yankees arent gonna catch boston they are just too deep and have too much of a cushion...they will get the WC and anything can happen in the playoffs...they just need to continue to do what they have been doing and forget about boston, winning the east means nothing to them....

I am from Boston and I am a Red Sox fan. Thats out of the way.

The Yanks are coming thru a pretty easy stretch in their schedule. In their next 22 games bringing them up to Aug 30 they play 22 games. 19 of those games are against top 10 teams in baseball.

The Red Sox in that same span will play 23 games and 9 of those games are against top 10 teams.

Lets see how the Sox and Yanks stand at the end of August.

They also still still have 6 games head to head so it may get real interesting down the stretch.

All the Bosox fans who say the Yankees are playing an easy schdule its the same schdule the redsox play, too. So by seasons end we will see where they all stand, but i think the Redsox will win the East, and the Yanks get the wild card.

p.s. Phil Hughes is the truth.

Opponents are hitting .262 against Yankee ace WANG.

Opponents are hitting .248 vs the ENTIRE(starting and relief) Red Sox pitching staff.

I can't think of one aspect(speed, hitting, pitching, defense, management) where the Yanks are on par with the Red Sox. Actually, it is by pure luck they are even as close as they are in the standings.

In honesty, will give the Yanks a slight edge in offense thus far in the season, as they are 1st in runs scored and Boston is 3rd.... but this gap will narrow considerably when they have to face the Red Sox staff and conversely the Red Sox tee-off on the Yanks staff.

How about power? The Yanks are getting 5.9 runs/game and Boston 5.1
The Yanks are also out hitting Boston 10.2 hits/game to Boston's 9.5

Saw The Crusher's post yesterday and it was one convincing post, and our esteemed FH just posted another good post.

This reminds me of a possible analogy, which may be bad but here goes:

It's like a cyclist (Red Sox) who was leading by 1/2 mile and now just finished an uphill climb & getting ready to go downhill, while another cyclist (Yankees) has gained ground and is less than 1/4 mile behind the first cyclist, but is *NOW* at the bottom of the uphill climb. So it's a tricky appearance.

The Red Sox are averaging .5 walks a game more, so this is basically a meaningless stat when comparing the two teams.

With the HUGE difference in pitching staffs between these clubs, the Red Sox are without question the better overall club.

Team ERA places Boston 2nd in MLB, whereas the Yanks are a mere 16th.

Funny, the Yanks and Red Sox are almost a complete reversal of themselves of the late 70's, 80's, and 90's when Red Sox nation always pondered how they couldnt win with the great offensive teams they had.............the reason, they had a staff similar to that of the Yankees of today.................medicore crappy.

Again, it is do delightful to see the Yankee fans soooooooooooooo jeolous of the Red Sox organization at this time.

Simply stated, the RED SOX are just producing a better product this century than the Yanks.............in basically every capacity.

IMO the big difference is Papplebon and Gagne.

Quite possibly the best set-up closer combo I have ever seen, Duane Ward Tom Henke come to mind.

New York's lineup is a little deeper, but in the end it will come down to pitching and New York is far behind in that category....although they have closed the gap some.

meaningless? how convenient. So 1/2 a walk is just as good as 7/10 of a hit? I don't think so.

I was only helping you out since you could not think of anything that the Yanks could be better at than the Bosox

Papplebon and Okajima may be ever better...........

RED SOX BULLPEN ERA's........

OKAJIMA .........1.00 in 54 innings
PAPELLBON..... 2.04 in 40 innings
DELCARMAN... 2.45 in 22 innings
GAGNE.......... 2.55 in 35 innings
SNYDER ........2.83 in 31 innings
LOPEZ.......... 2.81 in 31 innings
DONNELLY..... 3.01 in 21 innings
TIMLIN ..........3.60 in 35 innings

Fish I agree Boston is clearly the team to beat right now, barring anything out of the blue...it looks like JD Drew may be coming around too....Drew has been battling a family issue I believe...I still like NYY lineup slightly more than Boston but the pitching edge is huge.

NY would be wise to move Cano up and Damon down.

Basically yes, so the Yanks are averaging 10.2 hits/bb per game and the Red Sox 10.0

If this is a statistic that the Yankee fans want to bring up comparing the two teams, they are in a world of hurt..........which they are when compared to the Red Sox.

Thus far in the season the Yankees have been the better offensive team by a small margin..........Yankees 1st in runs scored and Boston 3rd(with AROD having a monster April, thus his nickname, Mr. Spring).

On the otherhand the Yankee pitching staff is not even worth mentioning when compared to the Bosox staff............

Agree on all accounts.

How is the trade off of CRISP for DAMON looking right now?

Drew has hit the ball very well with a little bad luck the past 5 weeks........really like the guy if he just stays healthy, thats the only concern.

Red Sox ARE the best team right now.....but this still makes them and all other teams underdogs when playoff time comes around, as you well know.

You cannot convert a walk into a hit as easily as that. A walk does not drive in a run from second base nor does it drive in runs with extra base hits. Take away the walk and give them another at bat which gives them roughly 1/3 chance of a hit if you must.

The Bosox are light years better than the Yankees in pitching, there is no arguing that. Batting is not so clearcut and I would give the nod to the Yanks. I am not a Yankee fan at all, just spouting off and putting your Bosox batting in perspective
