Picking up the Unit, we will see how he fares in itty bitty AL parks, is about it. They have no prospects left to trade. They won it all for New York after 9/11, and I respect that, but it has been downhill since. Lack of quality starters even worse and more pronounced than last year. Middle relief at best a question mark, and the best closer in baseball no longer looks like it. Borderline age at many spots, still heavy emotional baggage from worse choke in playoff history. Improved division could actually begin to be catching them, if the Red Sox have not already passed them.
A real false favorite at this juncture...OF:digit:

They lost to the Diamondbacks after 9/11..they haven't won a World Series since 2000.

Off of Rivera in game #7. He unraveled badly. Would have been a good ending. I meant gave the fans something to root for. I guess the peak was 2000. None of those starters around.
Rivera only pitcher left?...OF:icon_conf

What they also have lost is the setup men that were automatic...guys like Nelson, Stanton (always got the tough lefty out) Mendoza, Lloyd even Karsay...

Rivera was the best I have seen, mentally and pitching prowess. He seemed to have only one black mark in post season, the game #7 debacle vs. Zona. But he has lost the edge, and batters are now making contact. Seemed mentally shot after that pool electrocution at his place. If anyone one Yankee could be described as automatic, it was Rivera. He was close to unhittable those 3 straight championships. He came in, game ended, automatic. HOF for sure...OF

Yup Rivera is toast.

Still, OF is right when he was at his peak he was absolutely amazing. You'll never see a pitcher dominate that way again with only 1 pitch like Rivera did, "the cut fast ball" he could just throw that thing with sick velocity and pin point it anywhere. Becuase of the cutter's tendancy to steer away from the plate it is difficult to tell if it is a ball or not, add on the fact he was often whipping it at 97 and add on he knew exactly where he was putting it.

He struggles to get to 94 now.

Who is the Boss going to find that will do better with these guys than Torre?

One bad series and everyone thinks they're done. You all sound like Steinbrenner; there's only 150 games left. Having said that, I hope they get slaughtered all year.
