I feel like a run is coming. 3-2 yesterday, both losses were by one run apiece. Easy winner today. I have a lot of work to do, but plenty of time to get it done. There are a few spots that caught my eye for tomorrow. One is the Red Sox. They are big dogs due to their lousy play the last two weeks. They are one of several teams who I expect to go on a big second half run. I know their offense will be better when it warms up. They are going to call up Roman Anthony, the top prospect in baseball, in the near future. That will force Story or Rafaela out of the lineup. Obviously Bregman will be returning in July. They have pitching reinforcements working their way back from injury. I think someone on the coaching staff is going to get canned, they will have a team meeting and that will wake them up. Not Cora, but either the pitching coach or hitting coach feels like they are gone imminently. Maybe both. As for tomorrow, they have a clear rest advantage. Atlanta played two games today while Boston is in Atlanta resting on their day off. Lucas Giolito is coming off his best start of the season. There feels like there’s finally real urgency with Boston to the point that Cora called them out aggressively after yesterday’s latest brutal loss.
In addition to Boston, I think Arizona has a big run in them. When their staff dials in and gets rolling, they will turn the corner. They haven’t all been able to put it together. Burnes was lousy, now he has improved. Gallen got knocked around by the Pirates, his ERA is up to 5.50 I believe. I like their staff and they don’t even have Rodriguez right now. The Reds and Braves are two other sub .500 teams who are not living up to expectations. Cincinnati just won their most recent series in KC, maybe that gets them going. Atlanta has Strider and Acuna back, those two are massively important and can propel them to a wildcard berth.
I know I have you a lot here, but I don’t usually have the time to go into detail on my opinions about specific teams during the season. Back tomorrow with some bets.
