I used to get cold calls from Cris as well in past years until I added a Privacy Manager as part of my phone service for a nominal monthly fee. Now all automated telemarketing, of all kinds, is automatically blocked. SBC is the primary carrier in my area.

To answer your question regarding listing of books, I think that would be very appropriate and perhaps those books might realize that being listed could potentially hurt their bottom line and might consider reducing and/or ceasing with such activities.

It is a pretty scumish way to bring in revenue.

Hell, even the touts don't call like the old days.

There's so many outlets to attract new customers, I don't see why they have to pay some people to hammer the phones who in turn just end up annoying us and potentialy turning us away for good.

One cold call from any particular book leaves a real bad lasting impression to me. .

Cold calling is bad enough

... but what do they do when they get your wife/mom/dad/son/daughter/brother/friend/neighbor on the line? Do they simply ask for you, and then hang up when you're they're told you're not there?

I had one book INTRODUCE himself, and said he was looking for me. Well, my wife thought it was a local bookie who was looking to break my fu%%ing nose because I was stiffing him.

When I got home, it was chaos trying to explain everything. Well, at least it was my wife, so I got to explain things. If it had been a friend or a brother, they would have simply kept everything to themselves and I wouldn't have even had a chance to tell them what actually happened.

Maybe Olympic is calling on behalf of Royal, and Hollywood will start calling on behalf of Pinnacle, and Pinnacle will start calling on behalf of CRIS ....

Royal calls occasionally, even though I've told them not to.

Hey Shrink, even though we kinda know where you were coming from, your title for the thread is kinda off,

There's COLD CALLING, and thats calling and not knowing the person or have any business with them, but hoping you will. (if this is the case, well, theres nothing to worry about regarding siblings etc, its classified as another teleMkt call)

And then theres the other where, THEY KNOW YOU, as a client etc, and want you to send more funds etc. (if this is the case, then the book have some answering to do, and if they SOLD your info. hopefully you dont have too many different accts and you'll be able to knw who sold it)

This has really ruined my day.
All truth goes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed. Then, it is violently opposed. Finally, it is accepted as self-evident.

Do you think it would matter any if we started listing some of the books who are using this unscrupulous method of obtaining customers?
If someone or some entity is a repeat offender - then definitely that should be made aware to the public, as that is one of the functions of this good forum.

I'm rather new to this internet betting phenomenon, and never had any experiences with Royal or BetChris. However seeing in this thread that they cold call, tells me that they are shiit books.

In my experience, the only folks who cold call seeking speculative funds, are boiler room operations for penny stocks. Most of those stocks aren't even worth the paper their stock certificates are printed on. In short, they're scammers.

Lets for arguement sake, give those internet bookies who cold call a benefit of a doubt that they are solvent operations. However, I still would reject that, because I doubt dummies like that would stay solvent for long. Why would you use methods like cold calling, which are clearly associated with the crooks in the boiler rooms? Birds of a feather flock together.

Cold calling from books equals no confidence from players. That's my bottomline.

Even though I'm a sucker, I still rather not deal with people who use methods employed by the crooks working in other industries. You never know, it could be the same crooks just going through a career change. :103631605

Savant said the real reason why sales call exist-they work. If no one made money from them no business would would use telemarketing, cold calls, whatever you want to call it. Myself i hate the the practice and i hate receiving the calls. But it is an unfortunate fact that it works. Its a shotgun approach and 99% of us have to suffer for that 1% that does buy the product offered. The fact that CRIS does use this method should show all concerned that cold calling is not an indicator of a books stability. If i had my way all phone salesmen would die a long and painful death. But thats me.

i wonder if books are selective about which players they cold call.

i mean think about it, if you're trying to maximize profits, i guess you would only want to cold call the losers right???

RPM,

I doubt cold calling is restricted to "losers" only. Perhaps if they charted you and your plays MOVED every time you bet, then I suspect they wouldn't want you back...

But lots of people can WIN in the short run, so I think those gamblers get cold called as well...

I hate this practice, especially from ELITE SPORTS BOOKS because it tarnishes their image...

im thinking thats why I got called by CRIS and did not appreciate it...I lost to them a few months back..... but who knows it is annoying and I hope the books that do this realize it turns customers off from every posting up again with them IMHO

In my opinion, CRIS is one of the best sports books on this planet, but when it comes to marketing themselves, they fall short...

They need to bring someone from OUTSIDE who specializes in this, rather than having someone try and do it from within their infrastructure...

It's a shame that such an ELITE sports book doesn't recognize their weaknesses when it comes to marketing...

despite the fact that we ALL hate it...

is simple....

because it works....

***That being said Wagering type telemarketing is different from other types....***

All books should have an option on their site when signing up or otherwise that they do not want to be called unless emergency...

It sure does. That is how I make a great living.

There was a rule at the book I worked for:

Block all calls so they do not have our number
Hang up if a wife or child answers
Never leave a message on the machine.
Lastly, make sure to call at 5:30 pm because you will always be home.

Sorry guys, just the facts.
