I've heard that Canbet will knock you down to 20-25% of their limits.

Books that have booted me: SIA (reached their +15k threshold, so it was expected)

Books that have cut my limits: Canbet, Wagerstreet, Intertops, VIP.

I get a sense we will be able to count the number of books that won't take these measures on one hand in a year or two. We all know books like Pinny and CRIS probably will let you go at them with all your firepower, but my sense from meeting with people in CR over the last week was that rationalizing betting limits is on everyone's mind right now. Just a gut feeling, but I think they see that the low limit books are doing ok and the ones that take on the big boys in BetPanam fashion are really taking a risk.

booting winners is not the same as cutting max limits....

you should be happy that a book cuts your limits......that means they are managing the book correctly....

some people (i will not name names)..believe that books should boot ALL winners...that way they will remain profitable and not go belly up......

some people (myself included) believe that managing the action will suffice.......and a certain amount of wise-guy action is neccessary for a small shop...

While I do see the logic in that angle (limiting risk for the book to go under), I got a real sense it wasn't so much about doing to survive as it was an issue of doing it to smooth out their peaks and valleys and get their hold percentages up a point or two. Truth is very few books generally are in danger of going under if they don't limit the guys beating them to their numbers. But then again it is like a guy hitting back to back 8 teamers. If a book gets hammered back to back weeks with the same guys that are constantly beating them to the numbers you just never know do you...

I think it would save time to list the books that generally DON'T boot winners, or at least will let you win huge amounts without balking too much. I am thinking that Pinnacle, CRIS, WWTS, Grande and probably Olympic would qualify. Maybe WSEX and Casablanca also. Please correct me if I am wrong. Also add other books to the list that will tolerate winners.

Believe me they all tolerate winners, they just don't like getting beaten to a number. A lot of book managers told me they have quite a few players that are handicappers playing $500 up to 2 dimes and winning quite regularly and they have no problem with them. The only thing that gets most people barred, at least for now, is beating books to numbers consistently. I heard that same refrain 4 times last week. Winners are welcome, early jumps on the steam plays are not.

WILDBILL..........you didnt say anything about "getting beat to the number" thats another entirely different scenerio.......

beards for bw dont count...

meaning 99% of gamblers shouldnt worry about being booted..

if your booking action like that (bw's action)
you bettor be able to lay-off at the number they get down on or have a large base of squares that will lay bad numbers....otherwise your fighting an uphill battle..

Beat to the number - Say a game becomes a play by a major syndicate at -3.5. Then an order goes out for all the minus 3.5 that is available - this info travels fast and books move immediately (some off air) - getting beat to the number is having a bettor (other than the originator) lay 3.5 with a particular book. In other words, he beat the book to the number before that book was able move to 4 or 4.5 etc.

wil...

Books that shut players off for winning should be boycotted by all. Beating them to the number is one thing but being shut off simply for winning is unnacceptable if you give them plenty of play. If all you take a shot at are their off lines or only play once every couple of weeks then I don't mind either. If you give them at least 7-10 plays a week, aren't playing moves and you get shut off then you should report it here. They should be ashamed of themselves.

This "beating the book to the number" thing is about the same thing as the "middling at the same shop"......

It's up to the books to post the number....people assume that jumping the number from, say that 3.5 to, say 4 or 4.5 is really that much of an advantage.....

And yes, I know some of you are thinking, as I have myself that getting beat by the hook sucks and it always helps to place your wager at the best possible price that reflects your position on the game....

There is a huge assumtion here that the steam is always right.....whatever the number moves to you still have to be on the correct side of the number to collect....

One of the only advantages I had with my local guy was that I could bet Saturday or Sunday games when he opened up for the Thursday nighter, he never moved many if any weekend numbers on Thursday night....if they moved 2 or 3 points offshore between Monday and Thursday I could still get them at basically the original price.....

Bottom line I still had to pick the correct side regardless if the point or 2 points was in my favor or not....

Playing steam doesn't do you any good if you snatch the favorite up at 3.5 before it moves to 4 or 4.5, only to watch the dog win the game outright....

Every book on earth cuts limits and/or bars some bettors.

The one's that don't are the ones that go out of business.

Some people ( I won't mention names) can't understand english and are so ignorant to think that places like Pinnacle take on all comers for anything.
