Game: San Francisco at Chicago Cubs (7:00 PM Eastern)
Pick: Chicago Cubs -134
Wow. The Cubs are rolling. They swept Houston, putting up 22 runs in the three game series. They have won 15 of 19 and own a 25-12 record since early June and they've won five of their last six series. Barry Bonds is, um, not hot. He's off an 0-for-5 performance and hasn't gotten a hit in 20 at bats - worst ever streak in his career. Is the pressure of the pending record break weighing on him? It appears to be. The Giants have lost four straight games. San Francisco has been bottom-feeders this year. While 22-23 vs. losing teams, they are just 16-28 vs. winning teams. Worse for them, they are facing a lefty today. Versus southpaws, they are getting just 4.1 runs per game. Chicago averages 5.0 per game vs. righties and right now they are hitting everythinhg. Very low line here considering the state of these two ball clubs.

San Francisco Giants at Chicago Cubs
Monday, July 16th, 8:05 P.M. EDT
Cubs have won 15-of-19. The Giants have lost four straight and have a slumping Barry Bonds in the middle of their lineup. Supporting angles say to Play Against - Road teams (SAN FRANCISCO) - poor power team - averaging 0.9 or less HR's/game on the season against opponent with a cold starting pitcher- ERA >= 7.00 over his last 3 starts. (221-124 over the last 5 seasons, 64.1%) and Play On - Any team (CHICAGO CUBS) - with a starting pitcher whose strikes out 5 or more batters per start, with a cold starting pitcher- ERA >= 7.00 over his last 5 starts (59-23 over the last 5 seasons, 72%).

Toronto at NY YANKEES (-150)
I know one person who is going to be quite busy tonight in New York, and that is the scoreboard operator, as I see this Blue Jays-Yankees game sailing OVER the posted total early tonight.
Josh Towers may be off his best start in quite some time, but on the road Towers sports an over 6 ERA, and his last few starts against the Yankees tell me he will be hitting the showers early this evening.
Since 2005, Towers is 0-3 in 4 starts against New York allowing 16 runs in 22 innings of work.
The Yanks counter with Igawa who has been a flat-out bust in a pinstripe uniform with a 1-2 mark and an over 8 earned run average in the United States. His last 2 starts have lasted only 11 innings while 9 runs have scored against him for an 0-1 mark.
New York has been OVER the total to the tune of a 6-1-1 clip, while Toronto has been OVER the posted price in 6 of their last 8.
Gotta stick with the numbers and play the OVER tonight!

Toronto (+130) at NY YANKEES
Big series starts in the Bronx tonight, and we feel sure the Yankees would rather have Phillip Hughes toeing the rubber tonight instead of Kei Igawa, as Igawa is just not very good.
Toronto wound up taking 2 of the last 3 in their 4-game set at Fenway Park this weekend, and we like the momentum they bring into Yankees Stadium tonight.
The New York middle relief stinks, and the Yankees were lucky to escape lowly Tampa Bay with the series win. They won't be so lucky tonight. The Blue Jays have won 3 of the 4 series meetings this year against New York, and while Josh Towers has struggled against the Yanks in the past, he is coming off of a confidence-building 8 shutout innings in a no-decision at home against Cleveland.
Only a matter of time before the Blue Jays get to Igawa. We see nice value with the underdog Jays this evening in the series opener.
Play on Toronto.

Toronto (+135) at N.Y. YANKEES
These two teams are battling it out for the No. 2 spot in the AL East standings and open a four-game set in New York today.
Toronto is coming off a split of a four-game series in Boston after winning 2-1 Sunday and has been on the road for 14 of the last 17 games. Josh Towers (4-5, 5.07 ERA) starts for the Blue Jays who have won each of his last four starts.
Last time out Towers held Cleveland to three hits in eight innings but didn't earn the decision in the Blue Jays' 1-0 win. Towers has controled the Yankees' Alex Rodriguez, holding the slugger to a 4-for-23 mark in his career.
Kei Igawa (2-2, 7.14 ERA) is on the hill for the Yankees and he hasn't won a game since April 28. He's had three starts since his return from the minors and he is 0-1 with a 6.19 ERA and gave up five runs in five innings against the Twins on July 5.
Igawa is just not a pitcher we can back. Let's take the Blue Jays to get plenty of runs off him and give Towers room to work. Play Toronto in this one.

Philadelphia at LA DODGERS (-140)
Lay the chalk with the Dodgers tonight when they host the Phillies.
This is a very fair price, considering the Dodgers are starting Brad Penny. The right-hander checks in with a 10-1 record and a 2.39 ERA in 18 games this season. He's 7-4 with a 3.47 ERA in 18 career games against the Phillies.
Jamie Moyer will start for Philadelphia and the ancient one has struggled over his last three games, going 0-2 with a 6.11 ERA. The left-hander is 3-4 with a 4.07 ERA in 10 lifetime games against the Dodgers.
Take the Dodgers as they keep rolling with the home win tonight.

Take "(905) COL Rockies"
One pitcher heads back into his team's rotation, the other looks as though as he's on the way out. Taylor Buchholz has had some decent moments for the Rockies this season both as a starter and reliever, and is back out of the bullpen to make this start. I see him with a good shot to do well against the Pirates. Pittsburgh goes with John VanBenschoten, who's headed back to Indianapolis if he does poorly here. Bucs skipper Jim Tracy was clearly displeased with his last start and he won't likely be moved to the pen if he shows badly again here. Instead, he'll get optioned back to AAA. Considering VanBenschoten's form and the fact he's now under pressure to turn it around, I make him definite fade material here. The Rockies are the choice
Jim Feist
Take "(902) FLA Marlins"
Branden Looper has struggled this season for the Cardinals. Overall, his record rests at 6-7 with a 4.72 era. However, on the road he's just 3-4 with a 5.68 era. Additionally, the Cardinals have won just one of Loopers last four starts. Byung-Hyun Kim's last two starts have been very good, as the right-hander has allowed just three total earned runs in 12 2/3 innings. Moreover, he walked just four against 10 strike outs. Getting the Marlins at even money here is good value considering that Looper has been less than a consistent in his starts this year for St Louis. We'll take the Marlins here on Monday.

3 Unit Sharp Play on Boston -162

The Royals are 3-12 in their last 15 meetings in Boston. The Royals cant handle the pressure of an atmosphere like Fenway Park with an extremely young team. Kason Gabbard has yet to lose this season for the Red Sox and he wont be going down tonight either. The Royals are 1-5 in Brian Bannister's last 6 starts vs. a team with a winning record. The Red Sox are 81-32 in their last 113 home games vs. a team with a losing record. Boston will not be having a letdown tonight after a tough loss to the Blue Jays last night. The Red Sox are hungry for another win, even if its against the terrible Royals. Cash in with Boston.
3 Unit Sharp Play on Chicago Cubs -135
(Listing Hill)
The Cubs and Giants are going in opposite directions. The Cubs have been red hot including a recent 3-game sweep of the Houston Astros. The Giants just got swept against their rival Dodgers in their first series after the All-Star break. We will take the red hot Cubs tonight at home. Rich Hill will look like an All-Star against the Giants who are really struggling to hit the ball on the road. San Francisco is batting just .251 away from home this year. The Giants are 4-17 in their last 21 games as an underdog of +110 to +150. The Cubs are 7-0 in their last 7 games as a home favorite. The Cubs are 5-0 in Hill's last 5 home starts vs. a team with a losing record. Cash in with Chicago and Rich Hill today.
1 Unit on Blue Jays/Yankees Over 10
(Listing Towers and Igawa)
This will be an exciting game for the average baseball fan who likes a slugfest. Igawa and his 7.17 ERA goes up against Towers and his sub-par 5.07 ERA on the year. We dont see either starter lasting past the 5th inning tonight. The Over is 7-1 in Blue Jays last 8 after scoring 2 runs or less in their previous game. The Over is 5-1 in Towers' last 6 starts with 7 or more days of rest. Both starters come into this game a little rusty with the big break. The Over is 10-3 in Blue Jays last 13 road games vs. a left-handed starter. The Over is 6-1 in Igawa's last 7 starts as a favorite. The Over is 20-8-3 in Yankees last 31 games against the American League East Division. Enjoy this slugfest and cash in with the Over 10 runs tonight.
5 Unit Black Magic NL East vs. West Game of the Day on NY Mets -102
(Listing Sosa)
Jorge Sosa has been a leader on this Mets starting staff all season. Sosa is 7-3 with a mere 3.92 ERA. David Wells is far past his prime and hasnt seen a line-up as dangerous as New Yorks this season. The Mets are 3-0 in their last 3 meetings with San Diego. The Mets are 24-9 in their last 33 during game 1 of a series. They have seemed to get off to a good start in every series they enter. The Mets are 6-1 in their last 7 vs. a team with a winning record. The Mets are 8-3 in Sosa's last 11 starts. The Padres are 1-7 in Wells' last 8 starts after allowing 2 runs or less in their previous game. The Padres are 0-4 in their last 4 games following a win. The Padres havent been able to string wins together. Cash in with New York and Jorge Sosa.

The Yankees seem to be on a mission right now and we will take these great odds on New York at home tonight. New York is 14-5 in their last 19 home games. The Yankees are 8-2 in their last 10 games as a favorite. The Blue Jays are 1-6 in their last 7 games following a win. The Blue Jays are 2-9 in Towers' last 11 starts on Grass. The Yankees are 13-3 in their last 16 home games with the total set at 9.0-10.5. The Yankees are 110-48 in their last 158 home games vs. a team with a losing record. The Blue Jays are 0-5 in Towers' last 5 starts vs. Yankees. Towers just cant handle this dangerous line-up. Bet the Yankees at home.
7* MAJOR on St. Louis +103
(Listing Looper)
We see the Cardinals getting on a roll here with David Eckstein back in the line-up at the top of the order. Last years World Series champs wont go away quietly this season. A big 10-1 win over the Phillies on National TV last night should springboard this team. The Cardinals are 6-1 in their last 7 meetings with the young Marlins. We will take experience over young talent any time. The Marlins are 1-4 in Kim's last 5 home starts. The Cardinals are 4-0 in the last 4 meetings in Florida. Bet St. Louis.
3* on Colorado -109
(Listing Buchholz)
Taylor Buchholz has been a solid starter for the Rockies all season. He has just a 3.05 ERA over his last 3 starts. He faces John V.B. who is 0-3 on the year with a 7.11 ERA over his last 3 starts. Buchholz will have no problem shutting down a weak Pirates line-up tonight. Pittsburgh is hitting .242 over their last 10 games. The Rockies are on fire, batting .314 over their last 10 contests. The Rockies are 8-2 in their last 10 when their opponent scores 2 runs or less in their previous game. The Pirates are 0-4 in Van Benschoten's last 4 home starts. Colorado wins this one with a big display of runs tonight. Bet the Rockies.
7* MAJOR on Seattle -135

The Mariners are 16-5 in their last 21 home games overall. The Orioles are 1-4 in Burres' last 5 starts as a road underdog. The Mariners are 7-0 in their last 7 when their opponent scores 5 runs or more in their previous game. The Mariners are 4-0 in Ramirez's last 4 home starts. The Mariners are 21-5 in their last 26 after scoring 5 runs or more in their previous game. Seattle is hitting the ball with authority right now. Bet the Mariners

Game: San Francisco Giants at Chicago Cubs
Jul 16 2007 7:05PM
Prediction: San Francisco Giants
Reason: The Cubs have been the hotter team than the Giants lately. However, the Giants bring the much hotter starting pitcher into tonight's game. Lincecum is 2-0 with a 1.35 ERA his last three starts. Meanwhile, Hill is 0-1 with a 7.36 ERA his last three starts. Looking back a bit further and we find that Hill hasn't won since June 7 and has given up at least five runs in three of his last four starts, going 1-5 his last 11 outings. The Giants have always been terrific when playing the first game of a new week. In fact, they're 7-2 (+5.8) on Monday's this season and 27-13 (+15.3) the past three seasons. Looking back further and we find them at a highly profitable 110-58 (+49.1) on Monday's over the past decade. Don't be surprised when they start off the new week by scoring the minor upset. Consider a play on SAN FRANCISCO

Cleveland -174 (listing Lee)
I believe this one fits into the category of no-brainer. We'll pay some juice to pick up this surefire today. Lee is 20-4 against the money line vs. AL teams scoring 4.7 or less runs/game in the second half of the season over the last 3 seasons. The Indians are 30-10 against the money line as a home favorite of -110 or higher this season. There isn't a team in baseball worse against lefties than the White Sox. Take the Indians today with Lee on the mound.

(# 6) NAJDIAH - Well bet in both outings, she has had legitimate excuses in both and yet still finished second twice, a sign of a good racehorse. Michael Dickinson is calling the shots, so horse will be ready to run the nine-furlong distance.
(# 11) Silver Ransom - From the top Sheppard barn, this daughter of top turf stallion Red Ransom gets blinkers in her second appearance off a layoff. Filly is working very well for this and she'll show whatever she has today.
(# 1) Rosamund - She was claimed by a very good trainer in Mike Salvaggio for $20,000 last out from Mike Moran. New connections put her right into a maiden special ands add Lasix to her arsenal. She's taken just enough money at the windows and shown some talent that she may factor at a square price.
(#'s 2 & 4) Miss Poison and Something Ind. - Both of these fillies reside in top "turf" barns in Hamilton Smith and Richard Small respectively. Both are bred for grass, haven't performed well to this point, but would not be surprised at major improvement.

(Listing Ramirez)
Ramirez is undefeated in his last 3 starts. He will have no problems shutting down a weak Orioles line-up tonight. The Mariners are 28-12 in their last 40 home games vs. Baltimore.

PHILADELPHIA PARK Race #SIX (2:40 PM Eastern)

St. Louis +109 (action)
Florida has been one of St. Louis favorite places to play the last few seasons as the Cards are 5-1 at Florida against the Marlins over the last 3 years and 9-4 in all meetings the last 3 seasons. Surprisingly Florida is just 13-22 against the money line in home night games this season and 19-32 against the money line at home with a money line of -100 to -125 over the last 3 seasons. The Marlins have not been a successful small home favorite and we'll take advantage tonight with a team that smacks the ball around down in Florida. Take the Cards

Milwaukee -145 (listing Owings and Bush)
Arizona is really struggling having lost 6 of their last 8 and things aren't about to get any better for the D-Backs with Owings and his 7.90 road ERA on the hill today. Milwaukee is 14-2 against the money line in home games vs. an NL team with a team batting average of .250 or worse this season and 18-3 against the money line in home games vs. an NL team with an on base percentage .325 or worse this season. The Brewers are a very dominant 32-14 at home this season and they'll take care of business again here today.
