Bonus Rules and Whose a Pro

On most book websites it lists under the bonus rules something like "Bonuses are for recreational players only." Does this mean if I want to deposit $50,000 at a SBR A list book that I am a Pro even though I do not make a living at sportswagering? Who decides who is a pro and who is a recreational player?

Very good question -- and one that may be difficult to answer. Unfortunately, books never define what they mean by a "recreational player". It's this vague wording that often leads to battles between books and players. Personally, I don't pay attention to bonus offerings as I'm much more interested in finding reduced vig. Much better deal in the long run. But if you're determined to seek out a bonus, I would mention the book(s) you're considering and let poster feedback regarding bonuses at those books guide you.

Thanks Picasso, I am thinking about Bodog because they are the only ones that are safe but do not have a limit on bonuses.

Haule = The pro/recreational player definition can be a bit complicated, if I were worried about being rated a professional I would ask whatever book I was thinking of using ahead of time to define the difference before the deposit. Some books may have a different definition. As to who decides it has to be the book itself, and is generally decided by betting patterns. Example if you were to beat a particular book to steam numbers before they could move them you risk being called a pro, always getting the best number even if it is not steam can also mark you a a pro. My advice for that kind of money is to play at books that take all comers and do not differentiate between rec or pro players. A book like CRIS may be just what you are looking for,

Best of luck, and welcome to the Rx. wil.

Wilheim, thanks for the advice and I will look into CRIS but I think they have a bonus limit. I always hate making too many wagers at one book on any one day because it seems no matter what they will brand someone a Steam player and refuse the bonus or lower the limits to $100.

I believe CRIS will take any action up to their limits from all comers, and have never heard of them cutting anyone's limits. I would talk to them upfront and tell them what you are looking for in a book, and see if they will accomodate you. I know they take big bites during football season, so you shouldn't have to worry about limits.

No personal experience with Bodog, but they get mentioned a lot in this forum. So, I'm sure you'll get some feedback.

I don't know Cris's current bonus structure, but it was very generous when I signed up. If you are a pro, you know that 20% matchplay is worth a lot more than 10% cash.

Cris took some heat for revoking a bonus from a "professional player" 3-4 years ago, and SBR downgraded them for it. After SBR readmitted them, I posted, and had no problems withdrawing my bonus even after winning.

Your best bet is to simply negotiate with the book. Tell them the kind of action you will give (i.e. the sports and wager types you play, and typical volume). Don't identify yourself as a professional, but just express your concern (i.e. "If I play 5 dimes a game on mlb, does that make me a pro so I lose my bonus?")

Another advantage of telling them what you want, is that a book might give you a better offer than what is listed, and books frequently give higher limits, even on overnights.

If your sole concern is to collect your bonus, simply post up at a book that is "pro-friendly", or doesn't have the "recreational player" clause. There are plenty of these books, and posters here can name them for you.

I think a lot's going to depend on whether you can beat them out of money or not. Pro or not, if you start getting chunks of money away from them, they will cut your limits or tell you to gamble somewhere else.

Like the casino industry, the sportsbooks look at who is beating them out of money.....there is no limit to the money they will allow you to dump into thier system, pick all the losers and pay all you want. When someone cleans up on a regular basis with winners, they take notice and soon the party is over.

Very open to debate. There should never be a problem because a book should just pay the bonus and ask you to leave. The Recreational rule is BS IMO.
