Yes Jack i think you are correct...I'm trying to change this perception tho...God willing.
This is why i bet on games...You have a 50% chance of winning...Its cut and dry.
You don't get those kind of odds in Horse Racing...Hahaha
We do it cause we love the racing game.

Once again yours truly SS
The only thing I bet is horse racing. Nothing else. Not sports, not lotteries, not any casino games. Only horses.

This game is not easy. No question. And you better be able to devote an incredible amount of time to it if you want an edge.

I do not work. I am not retired. Been betting horses on a full time basis since 2008. Started playing decades ago.

If there's one thing I know something about it is betting the ponies. I've said it many times on this board, "it is not about picking winners, it is about making money".

This game is mathematical .... odds vs payout.

Guessing the favorite hits the board 95% of the time is not how you make money. That is a fact. You better KNOW the odds you're up against.

Don't guess, and don't place bets on some theoretical experiment you're hoping can magically turn a profit.

I wrote a computer program many moons ago that allows me to simulate any betting method or system. My Bet Analyzer is very detailed and can generate results for any type betting system. If I get some brilliant idea, like keying the favorite across the board in 6-horse field trifectas. I can plug it in and see exactly how much money I can expect to LOSE.

I empathize with your frustrations but don't think you guys are the only ones the set out on the same journey.

Einstein once said that insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

Think outside the box if you want to develop an edge. AND AN EDGE IS REQUIRED ..... fact.

You sound like you are a master computer programmer? I do not have that knowledge. You play Par-mutual for a living and beat this game? If true more power to you. How do you account for the high rake? And do you play the tourney sites? I think that is the best way to attack this game. GL Prof moving forward.:103631605

And no, I do not enjoy playing horses. That fire was extinguished long ago. I just do it. Feels like work.

Yes, computer programming is my forté. I do not play tourneys. Not interested unless I could verify behind any doubt they cannot be rigged. I was in one once were I had 9 winners out of ten and got beat by someone with 10 of 10. I had 2 double-digit shots in there as well. Theoretically, in a clean tourney, it would be easier to take on other cappers. But you still need an edge that is better than theirs.
I posted about rake 2 years ago and prompted no discussion. Many people like to turn a blind eye to important topics.
Rake is the measurement of how much better you must be than everyone else ...... accurate profit line trumps rake everytime.AND I MEAN ACCURATE.

OK. Thx for the take. It makes sense that someone with your computer knowledge might be able to beat this game. AS for the tourney sites Horse tourneys is an excellent site where you can play Pick & Pray and see everyone's else picks after the first race of the contest breaks. In that type of game all picks must be in and no changing after the contest is locked. Pretty sure these contests are full proof not rigged. HT has games where top prize is 10-15K. You may want to take a look. GL.

I've posted many tools on this board, and even some freeware, to help those that want to be players. Nobody uses them because they want the crystal ball. They don't see value of one piece of the puzzle. They don't want to work at it. They want touts to post back-to-back-to-back 20-1 shots free of charge.

Really?! .... so you can look at and record EVERY cappers picks submissions during the contest? Not just the top 100 or so.
Just curious, because if you can't verify all entries when the contest starts then you can't verify the winner.
Just curious. Haven't been in contests for a long time. Pick and pray .... picks can't be changed so why not let all see all.

All Players picks are open to see once gate opens in first race of the contest. NO picks can then be changed. SO you can see exactly who you are playing against(Full names) and exactly what their picks are. Check it out if interested. Hit me back if you have any other questions.

I did take a look and while I did not create an account, I don't see anything that would address my concerns.

1) I did not see a way to look at all the players and picks of previous contests.
2) Money (specifically rake) is not straightforward, that I can tell anyways.

I'm certainly not going to throw away 200 just to get some answers. They do a piss-poor job of explaining all the in and outs. I'm also not going to create an account to see lists either. The tracks aren't my first choices so I would definitely be handicapping my competition first and foremost before I dropped a cent. If I can't calc my chances then nope, forget it. If I'm targetting $2500 on $200 then I need to know my odds. If I can't get myself below 8-1 then it's a gamble not worth taking, to me ... plus there's taxes and that site appears UK ran.

It could be I can't see lists without an account, or maybe I'm blind. I would re-visit if I could see players and their picks, past or present.

FYI,I can re-handicap any race ever ran as if it hadn't. I would then handicap old contests to see, not only how I would have likely done but also level of talent in the contest and how they might be playing. Especially the regular cashers.

OK Prof. Yeah I notice you seem to post most plays from the smaller venues. HT contest concentrate on the bigger tracks. At night they have the smaller venues like Penn etc.
As for the rake it is around 11.5%. Not saying for every contest, but that is what I have seen posted. AS for throwing away $200 you can do a contest for as little as $9-$12. Also they have head to head contests where you play against one other player. Pick and Pray. That may be right up your alley.
I am under impression they are a Florida based company. Think they use a UK processor for some reason, but accounts limited to USA residents only.
When you have an account you can check the leaderboards of any game that is going. Keep in mind some are live, not all pick and pray.
Anyway, with your expertise I would sign up and play a $9 to $12 game and give it a spin. Pick and Pray. Of if more comfortable you can do ahead to head to head with one other player for $25. If you do and have any questions hit me back. GL.

PAYOUT CAPS
There is a cap on both the Win and Place payouts. The maximum payout on a $2 Win bet is $42 (20-1 odds) and the maximum payout on a $2 Place bet is $22
(10-1 odds).

They also have caps as well. In the exacta box games where you box 3 horses for $1, no Caps.

One last point. ON Taxes if you win $600 more than you deposit you would need to do a tax form. That is law on fantasy sports.

Do they want social security # to create an account or just before you enter a contest or deposit cash?

I would not be interested in the small games.
Thanks for the info.

Only need to provide a SS# if you withdraw. So you can sign up and play all you want without providing an SS#. That is the way it was when I signed up 3 years ago.

o request to withdraw from your account balance, please complete the form below. Please note the withdrawal policies/guidelines:
  • Residents of Colorado, Hawaii, Iowa, Montana, and Nevada are not permitted to withdraw money from account balances, but residents of those states may play in any events and may win qualifying packages to on-site tournaments.
  • Most requests to withdraw will be processed within 48 hours, but please allow up to five (5) business days for requests to be processed.
  • Players MUST have played funds that have been deposited into accounts in contests at HorseTourneys and may not request to withdraw those funds before the balance of the deposit has been played in contests (in other words, only winnings may be requested for withdrawal until the balance of the initial deposit has been played in contests).
  • Updated taxpayer information is required before withdrawals will be accepted. If you have not submitted your taxpayer information, you must do so through one of the available submission options, which are detailed below. Withdrawal amounts in excess of $600 in a calendar year (net of entry fees, i.e., the total amount won) will be subject to a single 1099-MISC filing with the IRS for the applicable tax year.
  • Players may withdraw at any time. The first three withdrawals in a 30 day period are free; any withdrawal requests within 30 days in excess of three (3) are subject to a $5 handling fee per instance.
  • Minimum withdrawal amount is $25

Do they not show complete results of old contests ... all players? By "leaderboards", do you mean all players?
I prefer live over Pick/Pray .... but doesn't mean I can't play it.
Thanks again.

They show the leaderboards(All Players) in progress and complete for that day's games. As for old contests, I am under the impression that they show your games played only. I can go back to OCT 24th of last year and I see I played a woodbine game.
