I don't think it was that hard... and I agree with all who say he is one of the greatest coaches of all time. He respects his players... that's why he has to keep them in line. He's moving up the lists, so what more could you say? He'll definitely leave a mark as a Coach... whether good or bad--he'll always be there as a legend.

I would rather play for a coach like knight, then any other coach out there. and all that matters is that his players have that type of respect for him..... who cares what anyone else thinks. one of the top 5 coaches of all time in my book.

All of his current and ex players are delusional and brain washed by this guy. He has them all convinced he is a good person. He is trash.

He needs to have his head shoved into a wall a few times in order to knock some sense into him.

My point is simple, you don't have to use physical force to make a point, especially when #1 this is not your kid and #2 you are already the authority figure and #3 you are Bob Knight known for this crap...If the kids parents would have flipped out over this, Knight would be on the brink of being fired over this.

Knight creates disciplined players, just like the military creates disciplined soldiers. In both cases, some of them need to be kicked in the ass harded than others.

He turns punks into men.

Point is you don't have to hit people to make a point. Bob Knight is a class act , yeah :drink:

What do you expect the kid to say? He's on scholarship at TT, you think he's going to start trouble? That's like a soldier starting trouble while in the military, he's in a helpless situation...if Knight methods still worked he'd still be reaching the sweet sixteen, on his name alone he should be getting cream of the crop recruits but that doesn't happen anymore.

I ve played sports at a very high level there's nothing wrong with discipline and getting on your players, actually I prefer it, someone needs to smack Knight in the mouth, he shows no respect.

Similar to you calling me a wimp and a lady instead of talking about the topic at hand :howdy:

You demean the kid and his parents much more than Knight did with his innocuous slap on the chin, by implying that he and his parents would not say how they really felt. You asked the question, (although you forgot the ?)..."I suppose if that was your kid and he disrespected him it would be okay"...and I told you what the kid and his parents said. You don't like the answer so instead of talking about the answer, you instead complain that I called you a wimp and a lady, which is the result of you acting like a wimp and a lady! Knight is about 60 years old; you are probably much younger; but I would wager anything that you would NOT smack Knight in the mouth. Knight is a lot of things, but he is no wimp and he is no lady; I respect him, even though I agree with you that what he did yesterday was not the right thing; but it was no big deal and should be forgotten. You want to make this a big deal; I admit I am using you as a scapegoat for everyone on TV who is attacking Knight over this, Doug Gottlieb, is on ESPN right now, he is a perfect example of the type you remind me of, J-lady. I have no respect for you and your ilk!

Wild, Belichick's great demeanor:

Belichick has refused to refer to the Jets coach by name since Mangini left after serving five years as his defensive backs coach and last season as defensive coordinator, helping the Patriots win three Super Bowl titles. Their first midfield meeting after the Patriots won in New York this season wasn't a study in warmth either.

ANOTHER OF THE GREAT BELICHICK'S DEMEANOR:

PITTSBURGH (Sept. 26, 2005) -- New England coach Bill Belichick ordered Pittsburgh Steelers trainer John Norwig off the field when Norwig asked if medical help was needed for injured Patriots tackle Matt Light during their Week 3 game.

As Light lay on the Heinz Field turf with an apparently serious right leg injury during the second quarter of New England's 23-20 victory, Norwig came onto the field to offer help.
That prompted Belichick, who cautiously guards all injury information, to emphatically order the trainer off the field. Light later left the stadium with a cast on his leg.
NFL trainers normally treat only their own players but will offer their assistance during a serious injury, especially when it involves a visiting team player. Most teams have larger medical staffs for home games than for road games.
Belichick also may have been upset because Steelers coach Bill Cowher went onto the field to offer condolences to Patriots safety Rodney Harrison after he badly injured a knee earlier in the game. Harrison is expected to miss the rest of the season with a torn left knee ligament.

well, the 1st reason was because he put a lot of work into mangini and after 5 years with the man, you expect some kind of loyalty or upfront honesty. Mangini was very secretive about looking for the head coaching vacancy and even surprised bill when he was interviewed by the jets. I remember him wishing crennel well for the cleveland position but he's been the opposite for mangini.

The 2nd article is downright shocking. That's a lame thing for any coach to do and I guess I might have to just stick with Dungy then lol.

i think it's impossible for doug stewart to make a post without including a character attack as well. haha just an observation.

Onto the actual topic---Knight doesn't seem to be in the wrong to me, although I think the explanation he and the AD gave was BS. Just be honest with the media, and say "i was chastising my guy because of something he did, and i am teaching these boys to become men, and men look their coaches in the eye even when they've done something wrong."
That's all Knight did. He should have just said it. There was absolutely nothing malicious in his action.

In regard to what journeyman said, I actually though something similar to part of what you posted. There's no way the kid could have said "I think Coach Knight was out of line" without fearing he'd 1) get a hell of a lot less playing time 2) Catch shit from his teamates, coaches, and not to mention all the students at TT that love Knight 3) possibly having to transfer schools b/c you better believe it's damn near impossible to play for a coach that you've "disrespected" in the media.

Many coaches view these players as their children in some respects, as young guys that are growing up. Parents send their kids to Knight not just b/c he's a great b-ball mind, but b/c they know he will help build character and maturity. Think this was nothing more than a coach/father teaching his player/son a lesson.

To even be discussing this recent incident by Knight is absolutely ridiculous.

In high school, my basketball/football coaches would assert themselves to one of my teammates or myslef in a matter 10x worse than this............and we thought nothing of it...............and respected our coaches.
