Thank you, Sir

For having your qb take 2 knees on the NC St. 2 yd line to end the game--

There are quite a few jerks (Bob Stoops, Pete Carroll, Steve Spurrier) that would have run the ball in and won by 14.

Obviously I had NC St. +7!

Throw in George Seifert (only NFL coach I ever saw run it up, when he could have ran it out) and Joe Paterno...

The guy at Boise State cost me a bundle when he called a pass play and scored a TD with less than 30 seconds left against Iowa State in a bowl game - WITH BOISE LEADING BY 13!!!!!!!!!!

I can understand putting Spurrier on that list but Bob Stoops doesn't run it up with anywhere near the frequency that say Mike Leach does. Pete Carroll is similar to Stoops in that sometimes you play teams that don't have a defense worth a damn. Even with their 2nd or 3rd stringers in there (who could probably start for many other teams) they score. It's hard to fault them for it.

How about Calipari playing his starters with a minute to go and up 52 against Savannah State. I had Memphis -34 but what a tool.

I differ: if he'd been leading by 9 or more points(maybe even had a less lousy QB available), he'd have gone for the TD-- for rankings purposes: that 7 point win margin was no great help in that area. He likely was just protecting the ball & the W-- as any Giants/Philly fan who remembers the Joe Pisarcik debacle will agree with.........

Are these coaches just supposed to tell their kids "Don't try hard... we don't want to hurt the other teams feelings"

Gimme a break. If you can't stay within 60 of another team then you deserve the embarassment of being blown out by 60.

It's not like Spurrier was calling trick plays and fake punts/fg to add more onto the score. He was simply doing the same thing that gave them the 35 point lead in the first place. Why should you have to stop doing something because the other team can't defend it?

You should play every possesion as if you were down. WorldRunner brings up a good point.

I never played college football... But if I did... and I happened to be a second stringer... It'd be a hard sell for my coach to convince me that I should go play the last 10 minutes... But we need to try to stay out of the endzone. To hell with that.

I would never tell a team not to play hard. But not pulling your starters and throwing late in the ball game up big, I have a problem with. Boise is by far the biggest offender, Yes I remember the IOWA ST game, classless. BUt they have done it many more times then that, it's just those games are not on TV.

Obviously I bet a lot of dogs,so you can understand why I don't like it.:coffeetim <!-- / message -->

Well everyone always accuses Spurrier and I don't think that's fair.

Blowing out those teams is important to recruiting... It just is. Fair or not.
Spurrier's teams passed 60%+ of the time. So when he brings in his backups should he run the ball 60% of the time? I don't think so. I think he should bring in his reserves (which he did) and hae them run the same plays. No other way to get game experience. If you come out and run 42 iso 38 times in a row then you might as well have just kneeled the ball and punted.
