Matt Forte feels his time with the
Chicago Bears is nearing the end. After attempts to work out something so he could stay went without a response, he sees the writing on the wall and is ready to move on.[/h] With no playoff hopes to extend the season, the Chicago Bears have just two games remaining. After that, you could expect a lot of turnover on the roster. General manager Ryan Pace head coach John Fox want to mold their team to their vision, and some players on the current roster don’t fit that vision.
One of those players appears to be Matt Forte.

Forte will be a free agent at the end of the season. He has been one of the elite running backs since he entered the league in 2008, but he is on the wrong side of age 30 now, and with the de-emphasis on the running game, the Bears seem to not want to give Forte another contract.
Forte sees the writing on the wall. He and his agent approached the Bears last offseason, trying to restructure his deal so he could be extended. It would have been a win-win for both parties, as Forte would have gotten more cash in a bonus, and the Bears would get salary cap relief.
The Bears did not respond.
Now Matt Forte
feels that the end is near. “I mean, I want to return,” Forte said. “But if you’re saying, am I hopeful that I do return? There is not much to hope for that right now because like I said, I talked to [the Bears’ front office] earlier and they haven’t said anything back. So there’s nothing really to hope for.”
The Chicago Bears already have two young running backs in
Jeremy Langford and
Ka’Deem Carey. Langford has shown flashes of being the same type of back as Forte, running well and catching the ball out of the backfield. Having a big contract at running back, with two solid options already there, and having so many holes to fill, is not a good idea.
Matt Forte has been a great representative of the Chicago Bears. He has been a shining example of how to be a role model both on and off the field. He has done everything that has been asked of him, and you do not hear any complaining from him.
We need to know that this is a business, however, and sometimes tough, unpopular decisions need to be made.
Matt Forte really wants to stay in Chicago. He even
hinted that he would give the team a hometown discount. “I always look at staying home and being here where I’ve been the past eight years. That’s a major factor.”

It seems everyone wants Matt Forte back in Chicago but the Chicago Bears. They are looking to move on, and that is something he and the fans may be forced to do.
