BERLIN - Sen. Barack Obama scrapped plans to visit wounded members of the armed forces in Germany as part of his overseas trip, a decision his campaign said was made because the Democratic presidential candidate thought it would be inappropriate on a campaign-funded journey.

A campaign adviser said the U.S. military saw the visit as a campaign stop.
"We learned from the Pentagon last night that the visit would be viewed instead as a campaign event," the adviser, retired Air Force Maj. Gen. Scott Gration, said in a statement. "Senator Obama did not want to have a trip to see our wounded warriors perveived as a campaign event when his visit was to show his appreciation for our troops and decided instead not to go."
Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign immediately criticized the move.
"Barack Obama is wrong. It is never inappropriate to visit our men and women in the military," said Brian Rogers, a spokesman for the Republican contender.
Obama's decision raised a number of questions because the visit, which had been scheduled for Friday, never appeared on the schedule of events distributed to reporters who are accompanying him on his travels.
The first word from the campaign about its existence was a statement from Obama spokesman Robert Gibbs.
Obama had been planning to go to Landstuhl Regional Medical Center in Germany before a flight to Paris. Gibbs said the stop was canceled because Obama decided "it would be inappropriate to make a stop to visit troops at a U.S. military facility as part of a trip funded by the campaign."

What kind of convoluted logic is this?

Bad choice for sure. But if he did go, you same guys would be blasting him for using it as a photo op.

Photo ops are something all politicians take advantage of, but BO seems to be setting new standards.

Maybe a photo-op with the troops in simply to mundane for the photo-op trail blazer.

And Tiz, no Presidential candidate has given a campaign speech abroad. Can you imagine somebody coming here and doing likewise?

It's all about images, and that's more scary than usual.

Sen. Obama also publicly threw General "Betray Us" under the bus. Queue the 30 second RNC commercial for that one.

But don't worry, Mr. "Community Organizer" knows the middle-east like the back of his hand and will keep y'all safe. Assured us the surge would make things worse -- video footage that has since been taken down from his website -- but trust him...he has "the judgment to lead." :missingte

Has anyone ever looked at this lightweight's resume? Prior to his first term as senator, Barack Obama NEVER HAD A REAL JOB! Folks, this guy has never even run a lemonade stand and you're ready to elect him to lead the world's largest economy and only superpower?????? :ohno:

General Petraeus (4 star general wrote the book on modern counterinsurgency warfare) vs Mr. "Community Organizer" -- you decide. :103631605

Mark my words, by the time this election kicks off in earnest this fall, the Hope Express will be a train wreck.

Once again, Democrats nominated the wrong guy!! You buffoons should have nominated Hillary!

"We learned from the Pentagon last night that the visit would be viewed instead as a campaign event,"

So youre downing him for being respectful to the troops?! Unfreak'nbelievable.

Rightside lands a staggering combination blow to the head, and the bullshit goes down.

I wish I thought of this, damn.

Gotta love the Left raving about Obama's speech and the American flag waving in Germany (then again, I thought everyone hated us?)

So Obama has the German vote locked up. Good job!

Meanwhile...back in America (you know, where people can actually vote in the election), the news is a little troubling for Obama and his Leftist ilk in four states, where his lead has evaporated or narrowed significantly.

http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/washington/2008/07/john-mccain-pic.html

Oops. Pretty speeches in European cities play well with the MoveOn.org crowd...lbut the rest of America, ehhh. Not so much.

Joe C is right (a redundant statement if there ever was one). Four years ago, this clown was in a state house. He hasn't even served a single term as a senator, yet he thinks he's qualified to be president because he cribs RFK speeches. WTF? This isn't Abe Lincoln coming out of Illinois...despite the absurd, weak links Obama tries to make. This isn't 1860. America is a bigger, bit more complicated place. A Leftist tyro isn't the answer. And America knows it...I'm on Obama +230 very, very heavily.

Bush is the President Tizdoom.

Obama could easily set it up to set up a speech after going inside and seeing the troops. No need to parade the troops in with the cameras rolling.

Just like athletes that go to the hospitals. Why take the cameras with you. Just do it.

Isn't that what I said?

Are you really comparing what Rudy did to this massively staged photo op? "oh give me a fuckin break is right" yet again

If the POTUS doesn't visit a disaster area, he's mocked for not caring. Is Berlin a disaster area now? i know you don't mean this, but since you're all over the fucking board, I might as well be too.

Bottom line, candidates do not campaign on foreign soil, period. This is not dialogue, this is a photo op and nothing but a photo op.

I idol worship no one Tizdoom. All I am saying if he wanted to go see the troops he could of just leave the cameras at home. But that would never happen.

well other than the moonbat i supported....

its all about getting elected

although to be fair for some reason i think obama means well but is completely and utterly clueless/wrong on the issues

although as time goes on that thought decreases

Prior to Ronald Reagan becoming president, he took a trip to Germany to visit the Berlin Wall with a few of his closest aides and advisers. He also met with a few former East Germans who had managed to escape the former totalitarian DDR.

Reagan turned to one of his aides and said, "We have to find a way to knock this thing down."

And he did.

No cameras, no announcements, no press releases, no speeches...just a little strategy building that changed world history. His trips to London and Rome to meet with the Iron Lady and Pope John Paul were similarly low profile.

Sen. Barack Obama is Hollywood showmanship -- nothing else. No serious policy(s), just platitudes by the pound.

I've seen Obama when reporters actually ask him tough questions. Even with a pussycat like Katie Curic, he's AWFUL. He stutters, he contradicts himself within 30 seconds, he comes across as EXTREMELY insecure. Obama is going to be easy pickings in any debate and going to falter badly once we get him on the defensive.

This Hollywood-style tour and a star-struck media turning Obama into something he is not is going to backfire when the glitter starts to wear off.

Remember, great euphoric 'highs' are always followed by very bad lows. Just ask our resident coke head. :nohead:

Enjoy it while it lasts, kids (and I do mean kids) because no sane adult is not going to elect Will Smith as the next president of the United States.

"Liberal" McCain. :lolBIG:

So you'd rather have Communist Obama? Kid, are you on drugs? :icon_conf

There is a Grand Canyon like gulf between what you'll get with Sen. McCain vs Sen. Obama, Tizdoom.

Obama will add more than a trillion to the budget, double the capital gains tax (say goodbye to your best friends: the investor class!), raise the social security cap, introduce a "global poverty tax"...

And this is merely what the most most left wing senator has promised before he's elected. I haven't even mentioned all the eco-wacko fascist 'environment' programs Democrats and their special interests can't wait to shove down our throats!

whoop de do dah....

The perfect is the enemy of the good.

Idealism is great, Tizdoom -- when we were in high school.

John McCain has pledged to balance the budget within four years by going after EARMARKS and ENTITLEMENTS. What more do you want? :icon_conf

reagan seemed like the real deal joe but he never delivered the goods....the people behind the scenes screwed him up or something

Reagan accomplished everything he set out to do. Unfortunately he also had a DEMOCRAT congress to work with. Presidents don't control the purse strings, tizdoom....so Reagan had to compromise.

Would you have preferred a "balanced budget" and decaying military over the fall of the Evil Empire?

PLEASE READ THIS:

Presidential Executive Order 12612
(NOTE: President Reagan's effort to re-establish the proper role of the federal government through this Executive Order on Federalism was revoked in 1998 by Bill Clinton's new EO 13083, which largely re-justified the excessive unconstitutional role the federal government has assumed since the time of Franklin Roosevelt.)

http://reagan2020.us/federalism.asp

Compromise, tizdoom, compromise.

Reagan won the the cold war, tizdoom. Would have preferred a "balance budget" over the fall of the Evil Empire?

also think that assignation attempt really changed him

Whatever...

John McCain wasn't my first choice, or my second. Nor was he my third. Tizdoom. But right now, John McCain is my ONLY choice -- and yours also.

We have a political process in this country, that my guy and your guy didn't win. You are not ENTITLED to vote for your fav candidate in the general election, he has to earn it.

So you're voting McCain, right tizdoom? Please say you're voting for John McCain. :103631605
