while other books were at 4 and 4.5. Gillespie
took a stand and got customers to lay a bad
number. Worse case scenario is he took in less
money on GB than other outfits and possibly
drew money on the Bears +5.5

probably true

I got him at 4.5 then bought to 3 also but Im not suprised that he took a gamble on the pack.

How do you know him?

bodog is as sharp as SIA and their customers are nearly the same.

they move completely on public action, there is no real sharp action to offset their line moves, it is their business model and personally I think it sucks.

ATX:
Why not just go there for underdogs you like?
Or do they deal two lines?

Jackstraw...Not sure why it makes BoDog sharp to move the line to 5.5. Unless you are saying that is was obvious the Pack would win, which was not a foregone conclusion.

ATX...why do not more sharp players hit SIA with their bad numbers. I am basically an underdog player so I added it as an out early last year. If you go through the internet they are fine, if you have to call in i would never use them. They have been good to me.

Personally you think it sucks when you are the gambler. But when you are the book and you see that people are willing to take you up on what you offer then its really a win win situation.

The book is the one offering the line remember - why shouldn't they be able to take a gamble here and there? If you don't like a line they offer then why not go somewhere else?

That is his business model and it makes a lot of sense to me. Why not charge what people will pay?

Both Bododg and SIA will either kick you out or drastically cut your limits FOR WINNING. SIA will kick you out for sure.

that is why their lines are so off.

there is not enough money on the other side of the public at those two places to keep the line at market prices.

I see those two shops as deceptive and useless. They offer something but only want you to take the wrong side at a ridiculous price? Rob G. is not trying to take any kind of stand, he is inflating the line b/c he knows the public will still take it, and over time a one point or more difference in a spread will benefit the book vastly. We offer GB -5.5 and CHI +5.5, when everyone else has CHI +4 or +4.5, but you can only take GB -5.5, thanks for your business. This is exactly how they do business, I think it is a joke, and Bodog doesnt have a crystal clean image on top of it. What's even funnier about bodog is how long they wait to put their lines out. Bodog is bad for the industry, period. If more shops clone their business model this will not be good for the player.

I think Bodog is what it is. It's an easy way to get started, but once someone "learns the ropes", they quickly realize that there are better options.

Some people don't line shop. They just want to lay a little on a game for kicks. Bodog is great for people like that.

bodog doesnt kick people out anymore...

and I wouldnt call them deceptive - They make no bones about charging a little more and I dont know what thier reputation was before but if I was gonna invest in a book it would be this one. They aren't trying to give their money away and I dont think thats anyone's goal when running a sportsbook.

Its a trend that is just starting to show its head and isnt going away soon. More people are finding out that they can bet offshore and bodog makes it EASY for people to do it.

They have great customer service and they do have a good range of stuff that they offer. Yes - They have increased their bonus criteria to limit people just getting in and getting out for the bonus money alone - but who can blame them?

It might not be great for the bettor but its certainly a better option that getting your kneecaps broken by biff once you win too much off him.

Until sports betting gets legitimized in the US onshore then models like bodogs are gonna continue to do well - and are gonna go a long way towards getting people involved.

Then once the masses get more educated about it we might see a shift back the other way. But this is just the beginning I think. The next step is for MGM or Harrahs or PPE to find a loophole with the Nevada regulators and federal authorities to come in and snatch up all the bodogs and SIAs... Then you'll really see the bettor get it up the ass.

Bodog is really just another mom-pop bookie testing what the market can bear - and doing it successfully.

I see your point that the trend is distressing for bettors but I wouldnt blame bodog for getting on the right side of it to make a few bucks off the trend.

I'm sharp as hell then cause I posted a 2.5 on the Sunday night game for a while and several wise guys thought it was wise to buy it up to 3

Though, kinda cool, cant take credit for it, it was just we needed some NO money bad. Just a matter of needs, not sharp because of it.

ATX...

I am not following you with your example of "we offer GB -5.5 and Chicago +5.5 while everyone else has Chicago +4 or +4.5, but you can only take GB -5.5." Are you telling me they won't let certain players bet the dog or as you mentioned they tell people to go away. At what point does this occur because I should probably be concerned.

Thanks.

Betting with Bodog is much like shopping at a convenience store. A lot of the time they dont have what you need, and when they do it costs twice as much. Any specials or sales you see are limited to one item and usually you have to buy 10 dollars worth of gas to get the 'special'.
