Reporting from Sacramento -- The Obama administration is threatening to rescind billions of dollars in federal stimulus money if Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger and state lawmakers do not restore wage cuts to unionized home healthcare workers approved in February as part of the budget.

Schwarzenegger's office was advised this week by federal health officials that the wage reduction, which will save California $74 million, violates provisions of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. Failure to revoke the scheduled wage cut before it takes effect July 1 could cost California $6.8 billion in stimulus money, according to state officials.

The news comes as state lawmakers are already facing a severe cash crisis, with the state at risk of running out of money in July.

The wages at issue involve workers who care for some 440,000 low-income disabled and elderly Californians. The workers, who collectively contribute millions of dollars in dues each month to the influential Service Employees International Union and the United Domestic Workers, will see the state's contribution to their wages cut from a maximum of $12.10 per hour to a maximum of $10.10.

First it was Chryslers union and now the Service Employees Union.

If said state spending cuts result in the state violating contractural agreements with the feds, then yeah, they're kinda stuck

Therein lies one of the big problems that states should consider before agreeing to take federal money.

If part of the federal stimulus package says states can't cut expenses to try and balance their budgets, then we have retards writing the stimulus package.

Not one ounce of integrity or common sense to be found, even money to states is a political payback to political buddies.

Idiots at the helm. Now elected officials in Washington DC think they can manage the world wide economy, literally make ocean waters recede, manage Wall St, manage the insurance industry, manage auto makers and manage the states too.

Seriously, what a bunch of fucking brain dead retards.

Is it any shock? We have a crooked lawer in charge of our country. People feel the two least trustworthy jobs in America are Politicans and Lawers, and we have both conviently shit wraped into one.

The sad thing about the "rebuilding our infrastructure" package is that less than 5% of it goes towards that, while the rest of the money is dished out to Obama's political allies.

The sickest part of it all in my opinion is federal government money being handed it failed state budgets. So since ( democratic) Californa, New York and Illionois can't balance their state budgets... people living in say Nebraska are going to have to subsize money to people in California via the federal government.

It's stealing money from the conservative ( and more fiscally responsible) south and midwest, and giving it directly to the Obama voting blocks in the coasts so that they won't have to change their (irresponsible) behavior. It's extortion. They didn't even vote for the putz.
