Chip Kelley just announced #9 is done for the year. Basically he had to do this and fast.He had to get the national negative focus off his team asap.
I am interested to see if Chris Peterson sits the taunter "Hout" for a game or two. I would... Interesting to note that the thug is from deep south Florida and the taunter is from supremist capital Idaho panhandle.

Oregon suspends Blount for season

EUGENE, Ore. -- Oregon has suspended running back LeGarrette Blount for the remainder of the season for punching Boise State linebacker Byron Hout after Thursday night's loss.

Immediately following Oregon's 19-8 loss at Boise, an ESPN replay of the incident showed Hout taunting Blount as the teams converged onto the field. As a Broncos assistant coach moved to separate Hout from Blount, the Oregon senior threw a right cross that connected with Hout's right jaw. Hout went down and popped right back up.

"Under no circumstance is fighting acceptable," the NCAA said in a statement Friday. "If it occurs before or during a game, the officials enforce the rules. If it occurs after a game, institutions and conferences decide how to address the situation. We trust our members to handle these situations appropriately. Sportsmanship is everyone's responsibility, including student-athletes, coaches, officials, institutions and fans.

In a statement prior to Blount's suspension, Oregon president Richard Lariviere calling the player's behavior "reprehensible."

"We do not and will not tolerate the actions that were taken by our player. Oregon's loyal fans expect and deserve better," Lariviere said. "The University of Oregon Athletics Department is reviewing the situation and will take appropriate action, reflecting the seriousness of the player's behavior."

Boise State spokesman Max Corbet told The Associated Press in an e-mail Friday that head coach Chris Petersen will not suspend Hout. Instead, Petersen will spend time with Hout this week to help him learn from what happened.

hout got what he deserved -- a punch to the face. .

Not defending the BSU kid at all, but it was that the OU running back was the one doing all the trash talking leading up to the game. Saying how OU "owed them an ass whipping" for BSU beating OU at home last year. I'm sure the BSU kid was not so kindly reminding him of that fact...

If you're going to dish it out...ya gotta be able to take it, don't ya?

And come on...be a man, punch him while he's looking at you. Sucker punching him was just about as classless act as I've seen in a long, long time.

What the BSU kid did was poor sportsmanship. What the OU kid did was assault for which he could have been arrested. Let's make sure we keep that in mind.

soonerdawg, why would you have expected only two or three games? The guy punched an opponent. He went after teammates. He went after people in the crowd. He's lucky he didn't get peppersprayed by the cops.

I'm surprised he wasn't kicked off the team permanently.

On a side note, it was absolutely weak what he did, but part of me had to admire his sucker-punch technique. The punch wasn't the strongest ever thrown, but it was perfectly targeted to the point of the jaw and the guy never saw it coming at all. He then made a quick escape.

If you're going to throw a cheap shot, well, that's how the textbook would draw it up.

yeah, taking a shot at his teammate was pretty stupid. should've left the fans alone. part of being a paying spectator is the fun of heckling. the athletes shouldn't let it get to them.

that being said, i thought the sucker punch to the jaw wasn't too bad a deal. hout went out of his way to talk shit to the guy.

i don't know. i don't have a problem with what happened to hout -- if you're gonna talk shit, be prepared to get hit. as far as the fans....yeah, they have a right to heckle like dumbasses. but the guy taking a swing at one of his teammates....

The season suspension sucks. I think it was a lucky instantaneous punch that landed. Yes it was a sucker punch, but it was an instantaneous hot head reaction and labeled as a sucker punch mostly because Hout had turned away to laugh at at his own taunt. This is no-win situation for Oregon, Boise St, or the NCAA or any college foots fan. If you want macho violent game tough football, then don't get all righteous when the game spills over. Blount is not a model citizen, but leave the high horse white sweetgum logic behind when passing sentence on his senior year career.

The kid was talking trash during the summer about how OU was going to kick boises ass...Well they got amnhandled though the score did not show it...If you are going to Chirp like a bird all summer, then he had to know it was coming. To throw the sucker punch was bush at best.

Yep. Sucker punching a player and being suspended for the season. Fucked your team over by cheap shotting. Yeah, this guy deserves accolades. :think2:

Jake, I believe you misread CK's post. Pretty sure he was applauding Oregon for suspending the thug for the season.
