Now I know that this has been touched on before, but I saw a post written by gyno and nowshesmyruca in jimmymac's thread and I just had to make this post.

This thread involves how other people play at the blackjack table. As soon as you can learn these facts then you will enjoy the game much more and have more success.

First of all, whenever I play, I try and count the cards the whole time. I usually wont play until maybe 1/3 the way through the shoe, then I join the table. Of course I am not going to join after seeing blackjacks or a lot of face cards. But anyway, I join late and NO ONE should have a problem with that at all. Sometimes I see players pissed because they say that it "RUINS THE SHOE." Well, damnit, whether or not I join doesnt mean shit. I may cause the WHOLE table to start winning! Rest assured that I didnt join the game after a hand where everyone had 19-21!

Now on to the main reason for the thread. Lets say that I sit in "third base" position. Now since I am counting cards, I may choose to take a card at 12 or 13 when most would not and I might NOT take a card at 15 or 16 depending on the count. What I hate is when IDIOT at the table starts telling me that "THIRD BASE" HAS to not take a hit or MUST take a hit! Damnit, I am using betting $75 a hand and some of them are betting the same or much less. Whether or not I take a hit has NOTHING to do with how the show will help or hurt them. By not playing just like they would like, the table may just start winning.

Idiots will think that I have changed the ENTIRE shoe. Yes, I might have helped everyone out as well. When I am playing, I am counting every card, but I dont care AT ALL whether you hit or stay on a 12 versus a dealer 12. What you do is your business since you placed the bet. It is your money and you can whatever you want with it. I have seen people take hits on 17 all of the time, and I could less. I would prefer people NOT taking a card at 15 or 16, but only because it will make the shoe last longer. Because at the end of that shoe, I am gone in search of another table to watch for a while.

People that are BOTHERED by how others play need to just leave the casino. If you did not put up their bet for them, then you have NO BUSINESS at all telling them how to play. There is NO SUCH thing as etiquette at the blackjack table. The players "playing poorly" are probably helping your bankroll rather than hurting it.

For once I actually agree with most of what you just said.

hey, do you play mainly in Oklahoma or Louisiana? I just got back from Bossier City yesterday. Went up to Winstar off 35 on Monday and played a few hours. How often do you go?

Been a while since I've seen a Grapevine TX gloss here at the Rx....or else I have just glanced right over it on your avatar for quite some time

DFW native here (though past 12 yrs in Florida)

Last time in stayed at that La Quinta Suites on 114 just east of the North airport entrance

My younger brother lives in Prestonwood area of North Dallas and told me about a year ago he and wife went up to Winstar with a couple hundred bucks to eat and play some video poker. And about an hour in, they hit for $5,000

Not sure if they given it all back yet in later trips...but he was pretty happy when telling me..

I play in south Louisiana. But I regularly go to Cherokee casino in Tulsa. I will be at the Winstar for the 3million guaranteed event though

This is the bottomline. 99.85 percent of people are idiots when it comes to odds. For some reason the majority of people weren't born with that part of there brain.

Everything you said is 100 percent accurate, and I won't even listen to anyone who thinks otherwise.

What about the people that have been sitting at the table that are aware that the shoe is suddenly in play? Here comes Joe seat jumper, sitting down when the shoe is prime when the rest of the table has endured the bad stuff waiting for this type of shoe. Joe seat jumper is minimizing their exposure to the good shoe taking hands away from them.

Etiquette goes well beyond when someone hits or stands on any given hand in any given position. There is also a social etiquette to the game.

We've all seen a more extreme example of Joe seat jumper who comes onto the table mid shoe for ONE hand. He invariably makes people shift around so he can squeeze in. Maybe he wins, but we have all seen him lose. And when a guy like that squeezes onto the scene and ruins the flow of good cards for anyone at the table, it's not cool.

This is what I was talking about. It doesn't matter. It means nothing. I am clueless why people refuse to understand this.

You used the word etiquette in your thread title. How is jumpng onto a table that's in play not bad etiquette? I am not refusing to understand anything. I have played a lot of blackjack in my time and having people appear out of thin air to bet on a shoe in play is NOT good etiquette.

Perhaps you're misinterpreting all the pissed off looks you get for for the plays you make or don't make.... but the truth is... just merely jumping onto a table mid shoe is what players don't like.

I'm not trying to call you out here, but rather I am just replying to your thread with a coherent reply. The guy who replied back with 1 word nonesense... Whatever man.. If you don't understand, then I suppose that's just the way it is. I am giving you the perspective of gamblers. We play to win but we are social as well. I can't even begin to imagine being in a casino for a blackjack session without banging fists with my fellow players. I get the feeling you don't quite get that far b/c you're not on a table long enough to get to know anyone there.

best way to handle this is to ask the players if it is ok to sit in on the shoe. If the shoe sux, they wont mind. if the cards are working for them they will tell you to fuck off or wait for the next shuffle. Either way, i prefer that no one join the table mid shoe without asking.

You are 100% wrong that what you are doing makes no difference to the other players. By only sitting in on the good shoes, you take away +ev situations from the other players at the table. To give you a simple example, say that there is 1 other player at the table, and 50 cards left in a highly positive shoe. Playing headsup, that guy might get to play 7-8 hands against the dealer in a positive expectation situation. Once you sit down, that is cut to perhaps 4-5. You've directly and immediately hurt him by joining.

what cracks me up is that fucker that tries to stare you down to see what you're made of as soon as you sit down.....

and the first thing he does is stand on 15 while the dealer shows a 10.....for an 8 dollar bet

I'll start worrying about etiquette in a casino sometime around NEVER.
