Their problems with the Fremont Street Experiences and the other leins have been pretty public knowledge for a while...it's amazing they would let it get to the point where the feds had to come in.

Much more to come of this...rumors of a sale will escalate, though obviously the owners' leverage diminishes with news like this.

If it gets a once great casino out of the hands of that stupid bitch and her useless husband it will be well-worth it! Bring back Jack and run it right.

Binion's Horseshoe is my former employer back in the late eighties to early 90's.

Nothing that goes on with and in that place would surprise me.

Well said bulldog. That stupid bitch Becky and her moron husband have run that place into the ground. It's a real shame what has happenned to the Horseshoe. Benny Binion must be turning over in his grave. Jack Binion was no rocket scientist but he did a fair job and the place did pretty well while he was running the show.

Downtown is a real mess. That 80 million dollar piece of shit they call the Fremont Street Experience has been little help and the Neonopolis project is now called Neonflopolis. A couple years ago, the Behnen's tried to get Jack Binion to buy the Horseshoe back and he told them he needed a downtown property like he needed a hole in the head. Jack Binion is doing very well down in Mississippi and he doesn't need a has been property in a city where gambling is now discouraged.

We were there for a slot tourney the weekend before last. You could tell things were getting bad when the cage was out of hundy's and the Coffee Shop was out of eggs.

I'm sure one of the big boys will buy the rights to the WSOP.

Sad time. I had a lot of fun in that dump :)

Not mentioned is the fact that Jack sold his highly successful riverboats to Harrah's recently. Harrah's was reportedly rumored to be in the running to buying the Horseshoe downtown as well. Why anyone would want any of those decrepit casinos downtown is beyond me.

Harrah's, which recently bought the Horseshoe properties OUTSIDE Nevada is interested in the brand within Nevada. Their spokespeople have said they more interested in the brand name than the actual property downtown...but the latest developments certainly open the door for them to swoop in and take over the downtown property, too.

This story from the Las Vegas Sun pretty much spells out the situation.

I think ever since Becky took control of Binion's that we could all see this coming. From bringing in a known card cheat to run the sportsbook to the elimination of the $2 steak specialin the coffee shop, Becky has pretty much destroyed the place. You know Huggy, she actually wanted to discontinue the WSOP at one time! Well, looks like she got her wish. Now maybe Jack will get to buy it back cheap.

A lot of people that work downtown have told me that the place will just be shutdown. It will be good for everyone else because there just aren't enough customers there to handle it all. The WSOP has been rumored to be on the market, but no bids had been put in. Supposedly many were just hoping the Horseshoe would declare bankruptcy and they could get a cheaper price on it drawing it out of a bankruptcy court. This closure right now is extremely troubling though, with 4 months until the tournament starts it seems like it may not go this year, or might be sold and the time switched. Really troubling for the poker world, I am sure other casinos will try to set something up quickly and become a fill-in for at least this year. As for the building, well maybe a corner of it can become a museum, but the place really is better off closed for everyone.

What I miss from the Horseshoe:

WSOP

The DELI

Cold Beer

The Grilled Ham Breakfast and Late night steak special.

Full-pay Video Poker

Mini-Baccarat with 4% commission

Ambiance

It's been a few years but man, I used to love that place. The whole downtown experience for that matter. Have spent many a night (and early morning) shooting craps at the Horseshoe.

Really hate to see this happen. Here's hoping Jack buys it back. If not, maybe Boyd could get it. Last time I checked the Boyds would still gamble with you.

Vini..
Hope your right that Boyd gets it if Jack doesn't come back, but can't see them wanting a 4th place downtown with Cal/Fremont and Main St.
Really used to love downtown pre-light show.
I used to stay at Nugget.LVC or Lady Luck but would play everywhere down there and especially Shoe. I could never figure out why anybody would go to Strip at all then. Only went there rarely then myself(usually Stardust). Sure has changed for worse.

There's been a lot of rumors circulating that "The World Series of Poker" will be held at The Bellagio. If it's going to be held this year, there will have to be some kind of announcement soon due to all the planning it will take to hold poker's premier event someplace other than The Horseshoe.

I'm no expert but I can almost guarantee there will be a 2004 World Series of Poker somewhere.

This is a shame if the Horseshoe doesn't reopen. That place was the last reason I had left for going back to Vegas. They were essentially the only ones left with plenty of tables of decent single deck blackjack.
