There are two conferences that I really pay attention to.
Big East and the MAAC.
Grew up a Jersey boy and watched St. John's and Rutgers play all the time, now I live here in Husky country.
In the MAAC, Fairfield plays up the street from where I love (Bridgeport-Fairfied border) and my brother is a St. Peter's grad.
Which brings me to the play.
FAIRFIELD -14 over ST. PETER'S 3*
First the obvious, St. Peter's is flat out terrible, Fairfield has a good talented squad.
Now for the breakdown.
St. Peter's is 1-4 with losses to basketball juggernauts like, Boston U, Wagner, and Lehigh.
Three out of the four losses were beyond ugly.
Fairfield is 4-3, don't let that fool you, they lost to Memphis, Va. Tech, and Missouri.
Now for the matchups.
Fairfield has a well balanced scoring attack with four starters averaging 10 points + a game.
Fairfield has the superior size advantage, Nero goes 6' 7", Edney goes 6' 5 " and Johnson the F-C goes 6' 8".
St. Peter's has no pivot men to put up with that.
St. Peter's starts a talented guard in Wesley Jenkins, scoring 18 a game, however that comes with a horrible 37% FG average.
Nick Leon is the other only scorer St. Peter's starts, averaging 13 PPG, but like Jenkins, has a terrible 37 percent FG average.
Recapping, St. Peter's is outsized, should be one and done offensivly, can't shoot free throws well, and has to take that God awful bus ride from Jersey City NJ, on a Friday, over the GW Bridge, and then 30 miles on that I-95 into Ct.
Trust me, that is not a pleasant 2 hour plus bus ride.
Fairfield at home, if the game is officiated properly, will torch the Peacocks, and very easily could cover that 14 spot by half.
As per usual, thank you for taking the time to read this, and may all your tickets get cashed.
