HEHEHEHEHEEEEEEEEEEE

http://blogs.usatoday.com/ondeadline/2008/02/bill-would-make.html

Three legislators want to make it illegal for restaurants to serve obese customers in Mississippi. House Bill No. 282, which was introduced this month, says: Any food establishment to which this section applies shall not be allowed to serve food to any person who is obese, based on criteria prescribed by the State Department of Health after consultation with the Mississippi Council on Obesity Prevention and Management established under Section 41-101-1 or its successor. The State Department of Health shall prepare written materials that describe and explain the criteria for determining whether a person is obese, and shall provide those materials to all food establishments to which this section applies. A food establishment shall be entitled to rely on the criteria for obesity in those written materials when determining whether or not it is allowed to serve food to any person.
The proposal would allow health inspectors to yank the permit from any restaurant that "repeatedly" feeds extremely overweight customers.
The bill, written by GOP Rep. W. T. Mayhall Jr., was referred to the Judiciary and Public Health committees, but The Jackson Free Press doesn't expect it to garner much support in the statehouse.
About two-third of Mississippians are considered overweight or obese, according to a recent analysis of federal health data.

That has to take the cake as the stupidest bill of the decade.

I assume each restaurant would have to be equipped with a scale at the entrance to ascertain who is obese.

The bill was probably a gag, but still, it's :ohno:

big nanny state government just continues to amaze me, even getting outta wack at state level :ohno:

plus the way things are now

fat people on low income can't afford to eat healthy anyway as prices of healthy foods are skyrocketing

while double cheeseburger at mcdonalds is still 99 cents

that said this bill will never pass or i would hope

would be nearly impossible to enforce anyway

Tiz, this is palatable at the state-level. As federalists, we should embrace Miss's decisions, PROVIDED they don't trounce on the Law of the Land----the Bill of Rights.
(Yes you overweight slobs have a right to be fat bastards)

This seems like just bad legislation and they will pay for even fucking with it.

What they outta do is poll that state legislature and see how many of them are obese, then they outta take away their state-funded health care plans until the obese fukkers lose some weight.

Also they never talk about a big factor in the equation

price inflation on the healthy end, and junk foods actually going down in price

whos gonna pay a buck for a apple when you can get see an i'm lovin it commercial on the TV and all the cool kids are eating double cheseburgers from mcdonalds for the same price

actually i vaguely remember seeing healthy food ads, ads from some agency or such promoting healthy eating and such, growing up.....do they do this type of thing anymore?? i don't watch much TV anymore

anyway i'm rambling to the inflation part of the story

I eat fairly healthy my food expenses are going through the roof i know this first hand

plus to get "hippie" organic stuff (this is what you could get from any grocery store 30 years ago) you need to pay and even bigger premium

Healthy food getting more expensive
Study: Junk food costs are getting cheaper, may contribute to obesity trend

NEW YORK - The price of fruits and vegetables is climbing faster than inflation, while junk food is actually becoming cheaper, the findings of a new study suggest.

Using retail prices at major supermarket chains in Seattle, researchers at the University of Washington found that low-calorie, nutrient-rich foods — mainly fruits and vegetables — were far more expensive, calorie for calorie, than sweets and snack foods.

Moreover, the average price of the lowest-calorie foods — including green vegetables, tomatoes and berries — increased by almost 20 percent over 2 years. In contrast, in the same time period there was a 2-percent dip in the cost of the most calorie-laden fare, such as butter, potato chips, cookies and candy bars.

The findings, published in the Journal of the American Dietetic Association, highlight a key obstacle to healthy eating. And they may help explain why obesity rates are highest among the poorest Americans, according to the researchers.

"Whereas (calorie)-dense foods remain the most affordable option, the price of the recommended healthful foods of lower (calorie) density has disproportionately increased," write Drs. Pablo Monsivais and Adam Drewnowski.

They add that, along with encouraging Americans to change their personal behavior, the government may need to make policy shifts that help people eat more healthful foods — such as changes in the way the government subsidizes the agricultural industry.

In their study, the researchers examined the prices of 372 foods and beverages at Seattle supermarket chains in 2004 and 2006.

Hello, McDonald's I'd like the grilled wild caught salmon with a side of roasted asparagus and the tabbouleh as a salad. ----- Err, do you want fries with that?

Me too. I eat about 75% organic meats and vegetables and dairy products. It is about twice as expensive to eat these types of foods then your normal processed bullshit. I know a Woman, she dont make much money probably about 20K a year and she is single, hard working girl with a small child and she is on WIC. She isnt allowed the option to get Organic foods with this. But shes a health nut so she just buys them anyway. Now, that works for her but some people just dont think about it and buy the normal shit and they cant afford to do it anyway. Now its becomes what you describe as an economical issue. With that being said, people are getting poorer and poorer and inflation is going to start running away again, and people will have no choice but to eat cloned cows and processed garbage. Im not a nanny state guy and i know you cant do everything for everyone, but these are just the issues.
