Much was made of the contract extension kneejerk-hire coach Bill Stewart signed earlier this season, but the Sporting News reported this morning that the new contract contains a buyout clause that was not included in the original one he signed after the Mountaineers surprise bowl win.

He may be a 1-year "wonder" at West Virginia.

He may just be a one-game wonder by the time it's over..Stewart seems like a nice guy. But he's a terrible in-game coach, as he showed the other night on several occasions against Colorado. I hate to say it, but I can see a 6-6 or 7-5 year coming for WV if their offense can't get untracked. And they only have 4 starters returning on defense. Not a good sign.

Those quarterback sneaks they tried to run told a lot about how prepared the team is. Pat White stood straight up, moved slowly and looked like he wasn't trying at all. I think that team is completely lost right now and Stewart surely isn't the answer.

WVU admins better drop this feel good script after this year or I'm going to be pissed. WVU was well on its way to becoming a consistent top-10 force and it's an absolute joke that no-name basketball schools like UConn and Cincinnati could take their spotlight. If Pitt, WVU, and Louisville aren't dominating the Big East, the entire conference should be dropped from 1-A.

i think there is a clause in his contract.....850,000 per yr with each year being that....so around 850,000 times 5 years is what they would have to pay him.....

the big time donors are furious over this contract....why anything in there like that when you know, no other school would hire him....rumors are that he may step down in a few years and the ad would slide doc holliday in there....someone who has never been a coordinator before....

worst thing to happen to wvu was winning the fiesta bowl against okla.....

agree....everyone keeps saying it took him less than 5 games to destroy what rrod built.....it is aweful that the asst. ad, and the ad pissed rod off so bad that he had to leave.....the ad likes stewart becasue he wont complain, wont ask for money, and plays by the rules of the admin.....

Stewart blamed that on poor blocking by the offensive line which allowed the defensive line to penetrate and push the line back. BUT, even if that is so, and I suspect it is, White should have put his head down and looked for a hole to squeeze into. Bad fundamentals which is the result of bad coaching.

Bad blocking probably did doom the sneak to failure, but that wasn't the reason White gave up on the play so quickly and go down softer than a fat girl 30 minutes after last call. The reason for that was his pea-sized heart.

Agreed. After the stunt White pulled last year against Pitt, I'd never trust him again.

I agree with you, and that's a shame. He was one of college football's players that were most fun to watch when he and Slaton were going well in that backfield.
