idk if it's sports that got less interesting and there's not much to write about or bill simmons himself got bored and needed to branch out to other things
i'm more inclined to lean to the former than the latter b/c the news in the nba is quite frankly boring rn. the gap between the top 4 and the rest are so wide every trade option isn't really compelling. the players are reserved and the rebuilding story lines aren't promising at all. the shitty teams suck incredibly and so much so that it really negates the great individual talent that is in the league. the teams are also very dynamic so no real rivalry has time to develop before people switch teams again. and rightfully so, his podcast has shifted to football which is definitely more fun. in retrospect, the had a LOT of history to write about with guys who have been in the league for decades like kobe, kg, duncan, etc. aside from lebron and wade, melo is a huge disappointment, and steph/klay/draymond is only a recent phenomenon. there really are few polarizing figures to write about and it will take another decade for new angles to develop for intriguing stories for him to come back to the nba. he capitalized on the novelty, and others jumped the bandwagon (ie. truehoop, which i think was really good especially the daily cup that gathered news from around the league). in general it's really hard to generate new content as a journalist, but like i said before, i don't blame him because he doesn't have much to work with these days.
