Well my thought on this is. You need to have a certain confidence in yourself in order to be a good poker player.
I am no a quit type of person. But when I play live games I seem to not talk very much at all. So this last time at the casino I played about 4 hrs, rarely saying anything other than nice hand. So it's getting late I am planning on leaving soon. So I get in a hand with 2 other players. I got 9's in the hole. I finaly flopp a fucken set. so we to betting and it finaly gets to the last card it comes up a monkey. The guy bets into me I raise hime and he looks at all his chips and he was thinking of pushing. I tell him whatever he pushes I will call. He pushed I called he lost I walked out.
I think right there his ego cost him all his money. I barely talked all night long even when I was in pots. The 1st time I talk he pushed all in. He said after that's why he thought I had nothing. So sometimes I try to use thier ego against them.

That was well done! Usually, the less you talk, the more you impact you have when you DO talk.
I dont think a poker players ego is any bigger as a rule than any other form of gambler. Just more audible, because it is a bluff and psychological game. Us horseplayers tend to keep quiet. The pros are silent, as it only costs them to talk.
Sports bettors can be either way, but anyone with a strong enough opinion to wager on is going to be somewhat arrogant. Goes with the territory.
Good point. You either have to be very confident in yourself, or at least able to come across that way. Quite often, it's not about what you have-it's what others THINK you have.
Ill be in Reno watching the Belmont this weekend. You gotta cheer em home, its just before the race, at a track with small handle you want to keep quiet, and protect your price a little.
Couple years ago, a friend and I drove down to the Bike (Bicycle Club Cardroom in Los Angeles) and got on the board for 10-20 Hold em. No seats, so after a while they called us for a 3-6 game. We took the seats, and my friend was wanting to play higher, so he just kept killing the blind, and this one old fudger got pissed, and said " if you want to play higher why not get into a higher game?".....The war was on after that, and my friend barbequed this bastard out of $300 in a half hour.
You can never get upset in a cardgame.:missingte :missingte
Ive read countless threads about 98% or more sports bettors losing money, but I cant recall any rx regular poker player/poster mentioning being a net money loser.
Yeah, just look back at all the shit you were talking when you thought you were a superstar...
