Well my thought on this is. You need to have a certain confidence in yourself in order to be a good poker player.

I am no a quit type of person. But when I play live games I seem to not talk very much at all. So this last time at the casino I played about 4 hrs, rarely saying anything other than nice hand. So it's getting late I am planning on leaving soon. So I get in a hand with 2 other players. I got 9's in the hole. I finaly flopp a fucken set. so we to betting and it finaly gets to the last card it comes up a monkey. The guy bets into me I raise hime and he looks at all his chips and he was thinking of pushing. I tell him whatever he pushes I will call. He pushed I called he lost I walked out.

I think right there his ego cost him all his money. I barely talked all night long even when I was in pots. The 1st time I talk he pushed all in. He said after that's why he thought I had nothing. So sometimes I try to use thier ego against them.

That was well done! Usually, the less you talk, the more you impact you have when you DO talk.

I dont think a poker players ego is any bigger as a rule than any other form of gambler. Just more audible, because it is a bluff and psychological game. Us horseplayers tend to keep quiet. The pros are silent, as it only costs them to talk.

Sports bettors can be either way, but anyone with a strong enough opinion to wager on is going to be somewhat arrogant. Goes with the territory.

Thanks Cookie, I had a great rush after I got him to tell me why he pushed it all in. Talking is for the jackasses that want to show everyone that they are the shit. Nothing better than showing the nuts to a guy that bet into you 3 times. LOL I got a good post in the poker forum of how I flopped a King high straight flush and had 2 guys betting into me. LOL

Hahaha not sure about us horse players being quiet. I think I scared the nieghbors trying to cheer on Curlin to get past Street Sense.

Good point. You either have to be very confident in yourself, or at least able to come across that way. Quite often, it's not about what you have-it's what others THINK you have.

Ill be in Reno watching the Belmont this weekend. You gotta cheer em home, its just before the race, at a track with small handle you want to keep quiet, and protect your price a little.

Couple years ago, a friend and I drove down to the Bike (Bicycle Club Cardroom in Los Angeles) and got on the board for 10-20 Hold em. No seats, so after a while they called us for a 3-6 game. We took the seats, and my friend was wanting to play higher, so he just kept killing the blind, and this one old fudger got pissed, and said " if you want to play higher why not get into a higher game?".....The war was on after that, and my friend barbequed this bastard out of $300 in a half hour.

You can never get upset in a cardgame.:missingte :missingte

Also with poker you are taking money right from them. There is no middle man (sportsbook). That's why I love live poker. I love to play as much as all the poker players here but I just can't stand or get into online poker. I have tried but the grind of it just makes me sleepy.

Great story like I said in the poker forum. As soon as I got up money I was raising the blinds anywhere near the button. LOL When I was big blind I raised in the dark 3 times in a row. People got pissed I said this isn't a friendly game in the garage. Why do limpers get so pissed? Damn that will be a new thread in the poker forum.

Ive read countless threads about 98% or more sports bettors losing money, but I cant recall any rx regular poker player/poster mentioning being a net money loser.

In 3 plus years of lurking I have NEVER seen a post:

"I had a winning day but I didn't get a chance to post the 2 losers I had on the early games."

"I had 2 prop plays, didn't get lines in time.. they lost"

I won in baseball, but if you check my NBA thread... I got killed"

Having said that, poker players have bigger egos... without a doubt.

On a side note, poker players whining about bad beats seems to be frowned upon. Met with a general "blah blah blah....shit happens" attitude. So it would make sense that you see more positive posts than negative.

Let's do this. Miss playing poker with the Rx gang. That was entertaining. Stuff like Chop bluffing the dry side pot to keep another player in the tourney was awesome.
