FORT MYERS, Fla. (AP)—David Ortiz says players who test positive for steroids should be suspended from baseball for the whole season.
The Red Sox designated hitter says the way to clean up the game is through testing and not by taking players to court. Houston Astros shortstop Miguel Tejada pleaded guilty last Wednesday to misleading Congress about performance-enhancing drug use in baseball.
Ortiz also says he feels fine after wrist problems last season limited him to 23 homers. He says he took a few months off from swinging and felt a little strange when he started doing it again. But now he says he feels fine.
Ortiz was at Boston’s spring training camp Monday, the reporting day for position players. The first full squad workout is Wednesday.

Thats fucking classic. An obvious juicer calling for a year long suspension. He must be pretty sure he wont be caught.

Um... how is Papi an obvious juicer?
Zit dont want to burst your "boston players are pure" thing going on, but from a baseball fan, Papi became huge in middle of the steroids boom and doesnt exaclty look like a guy who works out too much for his strength

PS he had a huge decline in 2007, the first year of real heavy testing

And it took him like 5 seasons to finally hit 20 homers early on though he was injured a lot

Lance Berkman here in Houston mouthing off about it and he is a big user too kinda makes you wonder. If the league gets all these guys that are users to act like they are clean so they can cover up the problem.

By most measures 2007 was his best season, barely different than the previous three seasons

Ortiz is equally as likely to be (or have been) a drug user as any other professional athlete. To take a different view without offering any reasonable support or insight is just being stupid

Bingo.

I'm not saying I know he hasn't used, but you are talking like you
*know* that he has - which sounds really stupid given the
evidence that you produce.

I could make a whole list of guys I suspect on it....you can use what I call the eyeball test.....meaning look at their body and their stats....it might not even be steroids....could be HGH.....which they dont test for....trust me, there is still a lot of cheating going on.....heres a list off the top of my head of users....or who I think would be on that list of 104.....in no particular order....like l said, its just the eyeball test....

Jeff Bagwell
Craig Biggio
Jim Thome
Ivan Rodriguez
Cal Ripkin
Albert Pujols
Jermain Dye
Manny Ramierz
David Ortiz
Albert Bell

Those are just some of the big name guys I suspect or wouldnt be shocked if they were using SOMETHING*....that doesnt include the obvious guys like Clemens, Bonds, Sosa, A-Rod, Palmeiro, Juan Gonazles.....if someone told me Jeter was on it, I wouldnt be shocked....why would any name shock anyone? In todays steroid era, you are guilty until proven innocent....sad, but true.....

Ortiz got fat. Tony Gwynn added more bulk than anyone. For a while I was scared Ortiz would take the Mo Vaughan road of being so big an ankle injury (or for Ortiz his knee) becomes career ending

These were the highest paid players in all of sports and they weren't subjected to drug testing. A lot of great players used steroids, a lot of mediocre ones, too, as well as a lot who never even made it. And some players never used

If fans, the media, management, players or government really cared about drugs in baseball they would have pushed for testing 10, 20 or 30 years ago. By not doing that, whining about cheating or a tarnished era or guessing who was using is absolute stupidity

In 2007 is average went up but his power number went WAAAAY down.

he avg in 05 and 06 were 50 homers, in 2007 he had 35 in the same amount of games.

RBI's went from an avg of 142 in 05 and 06 to 117

His BA went up nicely but the power numbers went down bigtime, in the first year of heavy testing.

Again not saying he was taken but he is far from pure

I am a Sox fan and I think Tek and Papi are juicers.

Then again, I don't give a shite who does roids because I don't care about records or the HOF like a lot of stat geeks do.

Just win the game.

Who the fuck is David Arias?

David Ortiz graduated from Estudia Espailat High School in the Dominican Republic and in 1993 he was signed by the Seattle Mariners who listed him as "David Arias" (possibly not understanding Spanish naming customs). In 1996, the Mariners received Dave Hollins from the Minnesota Twins for a player to be named later. Later that season, the Mariners announced that the player to be named later would be Arias. When he arrived in Minnesota, he informed the team that he preferred to be listed as "David Ortiz," making him, quite literally, a player to be named later. He made his debut in September 1997.

i wonder what fehr thinks about all of this...

the players are putting the union in a bad spot...

they want stricter punishments?:):)

well they may get 'em...and they may also splinter their union...because it appears they have a small 'rat' problem...

time to play ball & leave the 'steroid-era' in the rear-view mirror.

David Aries Ortiz is the Red Sox DH

In 2007 is average went up but his power number went WAAAAY down.

His singles went up by 19, his doubles went up by 23, his homeruns went down by 19. Since batspeed is so important to a hit, whereas a homerun then becomes depended on trajectory, if he was benefiting from steroids in earlier years, he was in 2007 as well. Of course accountable testing first started in 2004 (when Ortiz first brokeout) and Ortiz has never testing positive

So either he is completely clean or the testing is pretty worthless. Niether of those is an unlikely scenerio
