After buying many tequilla rounds for a chica last night, I offered to give the girl a ride home...she said she lived in Pavas so I figured somewhere around the American Embassy or McDonalds...well, I drove past both of them and she told me to keep going straight...After a few miles I wound up in a section of Pavas where it looked like a battle zone...anyone here tell me where I was? It was like 1:30 in the morning and all I saw were tin huts and very bad streets with a couple of homeless guys walking around....I'm not goig back there soon, for sure!:drink:

Either Lomas or a place called La Carpio if you went all the way down.... there is some hardcore stabbings and shit going on there 24/7, 10 year olds selling 8-balls (and that's just the little girls, boys are more into weapons dealing and such). True you must be grateful you made it out of there, must likely it was lomas del rio (what nes pointed) my grandma used to live there a couple of years ago didnt even care when I was a child but when I turned 12-13 years old realized how scary the place is didnt even want to go to the "pulperia" at the corner once i had to run my ass off back to the house and that was 12 years ago or so things have gotten worse ever since

I'd expect that of Pavas, but I tried to take a short cut before San Josecito (San Rafael, Heredia) looking for the road to San Pablo, and I ended up down some residencial street with people standing out in the streets, lots of young men running, a few Fuerza Publica cars doing something; except for Police presence I thought I was in Nica Pavas.
My wife gets pissed off when I drive through the Dominican Republic area of San Jose downtown in the day. Short cuts are bad.
When I was first here in 2000, was riding with a nightclub owner who agreed to drop off one of the girls. I thought that was a war zone, the streets must have been cluster bombed for all the holes they had. No idea where we were, but it couldn't have been good.

I think that's one of the biggest slums in CR, next to Guarari (behind "Paseo de las Flores" mall in Heredia), La Carpio (1 km west from "Parque de Diversiones" in La Uruca) and Leon XIII (West-end of Tibas). There is quite a few more slums around the Greater Metropolitan Area, but definetely smaller in territory and population.
Demographically speaking, an estimated 60% or more are
Nicaraguan immigrants with a huge percentage of illegal ones.
My opinion: If the live below the poverty line in their home country, why the f*** they come here to live in the same or worse conditions.
Check it out on google maps sattelite mode. Identify slums all around the city. There is usually one right next to every decent neighborhood.
