Memorial Gym actually has a great atmosphere for big-time college basketball. Recently renovated, seats 14k+, a place you don't want to go play on the road.Opposing coaches hate to play there because the benches are on the ends of the court rather than the sidelines.

Not one of the cookie-cutter gyms that are popular with some but "Memorial Magic" has produced some great games over the years! Try to attend a game there if you get a chance.

Actually, fans are very close to the court, right on top of court on sidelines. Perhaps there is some sort of optical illusion when you watch on TV. Again, I encourage everyone to attend a game there.

vini I dont think we are talking about the same gym.. from TV's point of view, on the sideline where the benches USUALLY are.. its about 20 more feet of hardwoord, no stands.. the cheerleaders roam around in that area

Yes, they certainly are not close to the court where the players normally are.

Evidently Vanderbilt plays in a different gym when you watch them. All I can tell you, from personal experience, on numerous occasions, is that Memorial Gymnasium is a great place to experience big-time college basketball. That's just me, though. Hard to argue with folks that have never been there, seen and done that.

This is the post you made that got all this started. Memorial Gymnasium is about as far from "highschool like" as a gym can get. If you have attended a game there and care to discuss this further, fine. If not, I have nothing further to offer.
