I cant find this information on the internet. Didnt the Big East use the 6 fouls like the NBA for a couple years? Does anyone have the years?

Thanks in advance!

Thanks! I had a wager during the Cuse game with a friend. I just need to find proof somewhere now.

The Big East Conference said today it would seek permission from the National Collegiate Athletic Association to permit players to accumulate six fouls, rather than five, before being forced out of a game.
The six-foul rule was approved by a vote of the league's coaches, a spokeswoman, Chris Plonsky, said.
The coaches rejected a proposed rule change that would have allowed players fouled in the act of shooting a 3-point basket to shoot three free throws instead of two, Plonsky said.
The Boston College coach, Jim O'Brien, who voted against the changes, said, ''The lesser teams work hard trying to get the other team's big men out of the game and now this just increases the better team's chances.''
The N.C.A.A. this year said it would give individual conferences the option of adopting the rules changes. Permission to use the rule is ''usually a formality,'' Plonsky said.
If approved, the six-foul rule would apply to conference games and the Big East tournament. It could be used in nonconference games involving a Big East team with the approval of both coaches. The rule would not be used in the N.C.A.A. tournament.

The three-year experiment with the six-foul rule for the Big East Conference and two other college basketball leagues is over. "We'll give it a rest," Hank Nichols, the secretary-editor of the National Collegiate Athletic Association's basketball rules committee and the coordinator of men's basketball officials, said yesterday.
The rules committee approved two other experiments for next season: eliminating the five-second rule on guarding players closely, and stopping the clock after each field goal in the final two minutes of regulation and overtime but with no substitutions on those stoppages.

When you think back, that was a crazy rule...not the 6 fouls so much , but to have completely different rules than the rest of the nation....weird.

Also some other rules that were a bit odd IMO...when the 3 point shot first appeared it was used in conference but not in the NCAA tourney.

The tear NC State won in 1983, the ACC had the 3 point shot, and State was a very good 3 point team, with Gannon, Whittenburg and even Lowe came on to be a decent shooter down the stretch that year.

Somehow NC State still perservered at the NCAA tourney without the 3 point shot.

I was at the ACC Tourney that year down in Ga. , State had to win the thing just to make the dance.

I had no idea that was the case. I just figured it was implemented across the board. Talk about some key info in capping the tournament that year.

The 3 pt. shot was also ridiculously close.... the line was inside the top of the key by about 14 inches (approx) maybe more.

My ticket for that entire tourney at the Omni in Atl was like 75 bucks.

Jordan was there and Ralph Samson, NC State won the opener in OT then beat Jordan and Sampson to make the field....very memorable.

ESPN classic showed the UNC /NC ST game last week, first time I ever saw the tape of the game.

I remember seeing Dick Vitale in one of the places we ate on the first night there...that was a great memory for me.
