The official saw it that way also. But then he remembered who was supposed to win, hesistated, just like the previous penalty, where the ref had to be told by the defender to call it, came to his senses and called it a TD, like he was supposed to. The body language and the refs thinking about what they were supposed to call vs. what they saw was evident on this one. Then they repeatedly show the same can't tell angles, to try and keep the charade intact. They had the chance to give Pitt a TD, they were not going to let it even get to 4th down to find out what may happen. Glad we can all kiss and tell now.

Whether he was in or not would only have been the difference of 4 points. This pales in comparison to the things going on during the rest of the game. The things not being talked about in this thread would have added up to a lot more than just 4 points.

I think they'd have gone for it actually. Cowher is usually pretty agressive, plus it's the right play given that even if you are stopped you hand the ball over on the 1 foot line.

Whether they would have gotten in....who the hell knows. We were robbed of finding out.

I feel like we watched a game that took place in an alternate reality where Pittsburgh fans got to officiate the game -- terrible towels in hand.

nobody has brought this up here so far, but was it really 100 % sure seattle missed the field goals in first half..it looked like if you see it in full motion during game, but the ball took a funny turn just infront or over the cross-bar and it was kicked very high above the uprights, so it s difficult to see...just wondering with everybody question every call, why this is not brought up.

If I could I would pin the missed fg's on something. But they were misses. Sort of like a HR in bases, or a KO in boxing. Some things are unable to be manipulated. Fg's are one. Once Indy got eliminated, and boy the league pushed it to the edge to prevent that, they went to backup feel good story on Bettis. They got their story.

Dedicated sports channels are the only place this is getting coverage and even there its minimal. There was not one national piece today in our paper on officiating, this will only go down in the gambling venues as one of the worst officiated games of all time. But it definitely was.

Just as a side note

Steelers coach Bill Cowher said that had Ben Roethlisberger not scored on third down from the one near the end of the first half, he would have gone for the touchdown on fourth-and-inches Sunday, trailing 3-0, with 1:55 left.

well do you think that ESPN would really hurt their relationships with the NFL by constantly speaking out about the poor officiating? Hell, they cancelled Playmakers cause the NFL told them to.

Last night on Letterman. CNN is showing the part of the interview where he says that he thinks he did not have the TD.

The NFL office were all sitting in front of the tv, watching the show. Then he spills it. Handwringing pace quickened. The blank stares, or the head shakes in disbelief. Not even the team we giftwrapped this game to is playing along. First Cowler, now this. After the victory parade we need to see Big Ben in this office. We need to get him on the same page.

Of course they would. However, regular scribes accross the country could've got on the bandwagon if they wanted to. It was a badly called game but other than those of us who wager and scrutinize every play, no one else cares.

Worst officiating since the refs stole the game from the USA and gave it to Russia in basketball a long ass time ago.

They made a documentary about that by the way. Truly creepy stuff.
