internet rumors that none of the candidates could gain a majority of support so the Big 12 will remain as-is

Herman's agent can now go shopping for a $5m/yr gig as his big pay bump at Houston was tied to a power-5 move for the program

If true that is the death of the Big 12. Texas responsible for killing another conference.

Specifically Bob Bowlsby who's always been a slave to UT's needs

Texas and OU DO NOT want to extend the grant of rights and the other teams want them to because they've been breast fed so long, they'd miss UT and OU. Next step, look for OU to reach out to UH with maybe one other team and look WEST.

unreal. I know its not just about football.....oh wait....I think with the emergence of Houston in football, and either BYU or JC take cincy. I don't understand how after months or maybe longer they hae come to this where these old crooks cant find 2 above avg schools to join.. Obv there is more to just hand picking 2 teams, but the decision makers and I apologize for not being up to speed on who that is, cant come up with a solution, bc when OU and Tex are not winning the conference, it really isn't a good thing. They could most likely leave at any time. Just my uninformed 2 cents, but its really too bad at this point

Ha ha. Pimped out a bunch of programs. They knew they werent going to expand, they just needed to make the threat believable.

sounds like a forward-thinking organization...OU president says:

"if it ain't broke, don't fix it. We feel a lot of confidence that we have in the conference. That contributed to our decision not to further expand at this point."

which of course really means "OU makes more than all but 1 of the other 8 teams in the conference so why would i vote to change things?"

I'm guessing they figure since there's not a team in the Big 12 that is really that close to being playoff caliber, then what's the point of a conference championship game? I don't see Baylor coming back any time soon, TCU can barely beat Kansas, Texas is not likely to figure things out under Strong while Oklahoma has lost a step or two as well. Why divvy up the pie even further and create more competition in the fertile Houston recruiting grounds by giving more legitimacy to UH?

they already signed on for a conf champ game starting in 2017 which is why everyone assume there would be a move to 12 or 14 teams and then a North/South division structure with the winners of each meeting in the title game. Now i guess they will just have a rematch of #1 vs #2 in a single table format.

yesterday's decision reminds me of the refusal by the Big East commissioner to think about the future. The "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality has crushed many organizations and will be the SWC's downfall.

If you listen to talking heads around the big 12-2 programs, they all know the conference is declining and on it's way to death. What you have is a commish that is running it with eye balls on the bank account, he is not seeing anything past the money rolling in and seeing it's a lot. Of course it is a lot, the MAC or whatever conference also see's 2 comma's in their bank accounts. He can't see the big picture and I believe without a doubt, Texas pressured them to NOT allow houston in and that created some issues. Houston is such a great fit, but it will pull from Texas and if Houston were to get in a P5 conference, they have the demographics and fertile recriuting ground to compete. THey just need to make sure they don't get into a conference like the SEC with the more difficult course requirements.
