You know what is strange about that email. I received it oh about 2 months ago or more. It looked exactly like the PayPal website and I had not used the Paypal at all since they left the sports gaming area. So, I debated what to do . I had the toll free number to Paypal, which is for those that need it 1-888-221-1161. I called them to ask if there was going to be ANY charge for not using PayPal, since I did have an account there linked to my bank account. The person I spoke to told me--Absolutely NO. And he sent me to security to get ALL the Details! I gave them all the details and said will you be able to find who sent that and sue them. He said "sue them? we're going to put them in jail". The exact words-he used I swear. Anyway about two or three weeks later. I received the EXACT same email again. This time--I went to the PayPal website and CLOSED my account. Haven't had any more of those so called "fake emails" since!

Oldman:

The email had full PayPal Graphics. Looked like the real deal.

BUT, paypal wouldn't ask for all the cc info by unsecure e mail, and the senders e mail is bogus.

Here's the deal.
Yes it may be "fake". But why now after 3 months does it continue? They have this "security" team to find them and put a stop to it. My idea is that it is either from a former PayPal employee or from someone inside PayPal now--who wants to rid the company of non-active accounts. Very Strange!

Dante--You must go to the PayPal website and close it. There's a bunch of steps and procedures to be sure it's closed.

They don't want dead wood--so to speak.
