The thing that scares me about Nevada is the $$$ that it makes on booze. It will cost them & the casinos millions if people are rolling in stoned rather than sucking down & tipping on 6 beers.

Dry mouth should equal... drinks ! Tourists may be afraid to bring smoke on the plane, so I think it is a non factor, really. I'm sure it won't be legal to smoke a J and drive ?

STATE QUESTION NO. 7

Shall Titles: 32, 40 and 43 of the Nevada Revised Statutes be amended in order to allow and regulate the sale, use and possession of one ounce or less of marijuana by persons at least 21 years of age, by licensed marijuana retailers and wholesalers, allow for the sale of marijuana by licensed marijuana retailers and wholesalers, impose taxes and restrictions on the wholesale and restrictions on the wholesale and retail sale of marijuana, and to increase the criminal penalties for causing death or substantial bodily harm when driving while under the influence of drugs or alcohol?

YES
NO

EXPLANATION

The proposed amendments, if passed, would make various changes to Nevada law with respect to the possession and use of certain amounts of marijuana. The amendments would allow person at least 21 years of age to purchase, possess, use and transport up to one ounce of marijuana.

The amendments would also require that marijuana retailers and wholesalers be licensed by the Nevada Department of Taxation. The amendments would subject the wholesale sale of marijuana to an excise tax, and would subject the retail sale of marijuana to the existing sales tax. The financial impact of license fees and excise taxes is further decribed in the Fiscal Note. After a deduction to defray the cost of tax collection, fifty percent of the tax revenue from the sale of marijuana would be used to fund voluntary programs for the prevention and treatment of the abuse of alcohol, tobacco, or controlled substances, and the other fifty percent would go to the state general fund.

Under the amendments, the following activities would continue to be unlawful: operation of vehicles and vessels under the influence of marijuana; possession of a firearm while under the influence of marijuana: possession of marijuana by a prisoner; and possession of marijuana in a public place, correctional facility, or school.

The proposed amendments would increase the maximum prison terms and fines for violations of NRS 484.3796 (death or substantial bodily harm from driving under the influence) from 20 to 40 years imprisonment and from $5,000 to $10,000 in fines. The proposed amendments would also make it a class B felony for a person over 21 to sell or give marijuana to a minor.

The proposed amendments would have no affect on federal laws that prohibit the sale, possession, use and transport of marijuana.

What?!?! Are YOU smoking too much weed?? How much do you think the casino makes on beers? THEY GIVE IT AWAY TO ANYBODY IN THE PLACE FOR FREE!!! The casinos stand to make MILLIONS on the legalization of weed. First, they could SELL it. Second, they could just give it away, and STILL make more money. Stoned people don't move their asses off the slot stools.

The only thing that could keep this from going through is the high number of religious conservatives out there.

I did a presentation in college on the Nevada governor trying to legalize marijuana back in the day (about 4 or 5 years ago)...The governor's main point was: Legalize it, Regulate it, Tax it.... which is exactly what they should do with this AND online gambling. I kinda see why they dont' tho, there are quite a big number of people who cannot act in the proper manner under the influence (not me of course!), and I'd think we would see alot more accidents and what not if it WAS legalized, but as with anything that is illegal, ppl will find a way to get it.... soooo pretty much, the goverment is like if we legalize it, all hell might break loose, but go ahead and support your local dealers and make them rich, just as long as everyone is not going apenuts getting high and getting into accidents. :money:

Pretty much same thing for online gambling, maybe the majority of the population would get out of hand, but if they try to make it illegal, then the majority would NOT be doign it, although it would continue, and then the US can't be blamed for anything bad. Time to move to canada and get some hash and wager all LEGALLY :smoker2::smoker2::smoker2::smoker2:

Maybe if everyone pounds NO -200, the bookies will rig it and it will get legalized, LAWL

Casinos don't make money off booze sales, they make money off drunk people who can't/don't control their betting. People are far more likely to chase losses after they've had six Jack and cokes than if they're sober. And a stoned person not moving their ass off a slot stool?? Maybe, but it's far more likely a stoned person won't have the attention span to start with.

And legalising marijuana is hardly a license to sell it. The language of the law will probably allow for a certain amount for personal use, but will still outlaw trafficking.

I have no opinion one way or the other about how this vote will go, as it's decided by the people and not the casino owners, but to suggest pot legalisation would be good for casinos is ridiculous.

I don't see being able to buy POT at the casino gift shop, or being able to smoke it in the casino bar, if it passes.

It's more like you won't be prosecuted for possession. Federal law would supercede state law, IMO.

I just can't see sales being legal in the USA, anytime soon.

The nevada initiative would setup the the licensing of outlets to sell cannabis (up to an ounce) to those 21 and over. Each ounce would have a $45 tax added to it.

Where do the outlets get the weed from ? Is it gov't weed ? How much would it sell for in total ?

I can't see this passing.

Even if the question passes, it will never take effect because the whole thing will be thrown out at the federal level. The reason nevada law enforcement agencies haven't campaigned too hard against the question is because it could pass 99% to 1% but as one poster already mentioned is that federal law is already in place on this matter. So even is Question 7 passes here, it will be tossed out so the whole vote is meaningless.

Now, from a betting standpoint, you have to handicap it like this. The people of Las Vegas are the dumbest people on the face of the earth. I have never seen so many morons in one place in my entire life. Las Vegas is the armpit of America but even morons are allowed to vote. People here are actually listening to the idiots that got this thing on the ballot in the first place. My guess is it will pass something like 52% to 48% but like I said before, nothing in Question 7 will ever go into effect even if the dumbasses that live in this shithole vote yes and it passes.

Both from CRIS. Not funded at Diamond, but assuming they're shadowing.

I take it as being on the vote results only, if voted down "NO" wins, IMO.
