NFL…
The Miami Dolphins popped open the customary champagne corks as the last remaining unbeaten record in the NFL bit the dust, with Kansas City Chiefs loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. With only six games to go, the end game is beginning to take shape. The Titans continued their march to the Post Season with a severe win over the Jags, and they now share Super Bowl favouritism with Kansas at 4/1, while Indianapolis (7/1) kept pace with them for the AFC South with a win over the Jets. The other main contender for the AFC looks to be the Patriots who became the first team to defeat their former head coach, Bill Parcells, whose Dallas offence was shut out for the second time in two weeks! In the NFC, the rapidly improving Philadelphia (9/1) put themselves right back into the picture with a win over the Giants and they appear to have a lot going for them in the final few weeks of the season. Tampa, however, appear to face a tough task after losing to Green Bay at home.
This weekend’s live action has the Eagles hosting an important looking game against the Saints who are still in the battle for the play offs themselves, while the Chiefs will be hoping to bounce back when they meet Divisional rivals Oakland. On Sunday night, Steve Spurrier’s fading Redskins travel to Miami. With his job on the line it would be ironic that, against the State where he had most success as a Head coach, he could play out his last game in charge of the Skins. Monday night’s game in Tampa features two teams desperate for a win if they are to stand any chance of staying in the running for a play off berth.

McDynamo put himself in line for an Eclipse Award as Champion Steeplechaser with a four length victory in the Colonial Cup in Carolina on Sunday, a third Grade 1 success this term and his eighth win from ten starts. Meanwhile Brazilian import Hard Buck showed his toughness by taking advantage of a rail draw to get up and win the nine furlong Grade 3 River City handicap at Churchill Downs, his third win out of three races since coming over to the US!
Golf…
This week’s President’s Cup look’s evenly matched, although at the prices a token bet on the US (Evens) would have to be the call. The International side (8/11) captained by Gary Player will be relying heavily on the likes of Els and Singh, and much depends on how they perform. Last week’s successful World Cup partnership of Sabbatini and Immelman don’t even get a place, unlike the pairing of Appleby and Leaney who both played poorly last week in comparison. Jack Nicklaus, skipper of the US team, could also have chosen better, leaving out Chad Campbell for the likes of Jay Haas and Fred Funk. At least there will be no Tie in this event as two nominated players will go out and play a sudden death shoot out should the score end up 17-17!
