Just wondering if anybody has advice about putting a website together. Nothing too complicated, but would like for it to look decent. I see sites like godaddy offer website building programs....are these decent? Any informational links would be appreciated.

My website is www.therxx.com :)

Look into a company called interland. (do a search, dont have URL off hand) It's a piece of cake if you use them, you dont even need to know HTML. They have something included in their Bundle called 'site builder' and its a snap to learn. I have been playing around with it on my little 10MB verizon page and I am considering going through these guys to do my own page so I can have more storage and a unique URL.

If you need to add a forum, I'm sure you can just consult them on the matter. Shouldnt be hard.

Then if your site starts clocking in the dough with some ads, you can hire them or hire your own IT guy to be able to do other things.

Some Blog sites make in excess of 10,000$ a month in advertising, and these are people just ranting and the like.

Rob - I assume you are using www.interland.com??? I see they have a "do it yourself" webbuilder or a "built to order" package (with hefty setup fees). Are you using the do it yourself? Do you know what you pay/service you have?

Thanks again.

I just have the 10mb space from verizon but it uses Site builder and I found it very easy to convey your ideas on to the page. Youll have no problems importing files of any kind onto your page. I'll use interland when I'm ready for more. the 15$ dollar bundle seems to have more than enough to get started

Some sites offer free domain names. I got one from namesecure.com and used Microsoft Office Front Page to put it together. All you need is your username, password, IP address and you can build a decent looking site for free.

You might like this peteep

If you dont like anything technical, I would recommend using a pre-made template or perharps you might like to use the freesource mamboserver
website show below:

http://www.mamboserver.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=blogcategory&id=66&Itemid=91

The site can be easily design the way you like just like a template by
login into a admin site with full control of your website. Its kinda click
and type etc only. No html skill or whatever involve and the
page looks kinda really slick and cool. Below is a demo site made with
mamboserver: http://demo.mamboserver.com/

Lastly, unless you have some skill in web programming, you might end up
scratching your head while trying to install mambo server on your web
acct though. But I do know of a online web hosting company who
install mambo or other scripts for free if you order an webhosting acct
from them. :digit:

So after I purchase a hosting plan, I upload the mambo program to the server? Do I download the mambo software and simply log into it when I am designing the site? Thanks for your reply.

No you cannot just upload mambo server. You need to install it before using
it. From what I know, after installing the server, you will have a basic
website structure up already. So, you just login to the admin site and
start designing which is very simple.

I think his web hosting company offer to install scripts for free. What he did
was signup for his account for less than 10 bucks/mth and he has 500mb or
1gb space, cant remember there.. after signing up he fire an email to support
and he receive an email within 24hrs with a random username and pwd for
mambo. Just login and change pwd will do it.

I forgot his web hosting company URL though. If you're interested, I will ask
him tomorrow.

If you don't mind that would be great.Excuse my stupidity as I'm not tech savvy, but if I understand this I would download and install mambo on my cpu?? Or do I somehow install it on the hosting server? I found a site with a tutorial so I will look in more depth sometime soon but I'm too lazy right now.

You dont have to install anything on your cpu. The web hosting company
have to install mamboserver on the hosting account you sign for *which is
on their server*.
All you need to do is to login to a admin page to design your website.
So, your domain as in www.peteep.com will point to your website created
by mambo as you have seen before.

I would suggest you to let the web hosting company install for you since
its free service. If you prefer to install it yourself, make sure you know what
you're doing. If you left certain things out, the website might not work or
could contain error. Looks at the step below:

1. Sign up for your account.
2. Inform their support that you've signup and need mambo on your acct.
3. Wait for their reply. They will send you the informations you need.
4. Login to mambo admin page *which they will send you* to design site.
5. Design abit in the easy to use mambo admin site.. double check for error.
6. Tada your website is ready to go :)

You dont have to worry so much at all. Leave everything to them. Your job
is to design the site which is already made. kinda like change the layout
here and there, color etc than tell your friends to visit. Thats all :)
