I don't like the idea of paying $70 for every 600-800 i want paid via person to person.. My current credit union puts these checks on hold for 3-4 weeks and charges somewhere around $45.

What is the best route to quickly and efficiently cash these checks?

you've been charged? I never have...

I just deposit them into Bank of America ATMs

I use BOA as well but never could get the checks to deposit via the ATM. Always had to go inside to the teller. Maybe it's just the ATM's in my state?

BofA ATM would not take that last 4 or 5 Canadian checks I tried to deposit...have had to go inside recently...i have been depositing vs cashing the checks so not sure how long they put a hold on them for but I dont think it is 30 days (shorter)....have had no issues depositing inside....one teller asked a question if it was my "paycheck"...but that was it

weird how the ATM deal doesn't work anymore.

On a side note, no problems with Chase regular deposit

I use Bank Of America and a small bank with only a few branches.

Never had a problem with Canadian checks at either one...

Are there fees involved with chase? How long does it usually take for the check to clear and funds be available?

I'm not worried about "cashing" a check per se... just depositing it to an acct. and not having to wait a month for the funds to clear. Scary when a check is in limbo for 4 weeks.
